Hi All! This may be a far fetched question and I have already posted an email to the Guru- Dale Mclean but...
Would anyone know if a such an item exists?
I am searching for a device, similar to car steering wheel audio controls (buttons) that would plug into to control my mp3.
I have hardwired the mp3 for power and sound into my custom earmold drivers (noisegaurd) and it works very well.
The problem is (although I can manage) gloved fingers are a bit bulky to change songs and control the volume on the go.
The other option I guess would be to install a small car radio with option for steering wheel control or large remote controller.
I could then purchase the steering controllers and adaptor and mount the buttons close to bars or dash but would cost $250 aprox.
advice kindly appreciated :-++

I seriously doubt that it can be done, without serious mods to the MP3 player. You can fairly easily control the volume, but not control the tracks

This is what you want
(http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Starcom1-VOL-02-Remote-Volume-Control-for-use-with-Starcom1-Motorcycle-Intercom-/00/s/MjgyWDE1MA==/z/ysIAAOxy4M5R~pI1/$(KGrHqVHJF!FHh89mSZvBR+pI1CnKg~~60_35.JPG)
Although I can't find any mention of it on their website
Obviously Dale will know more about them.

I've got one, and it works fine. I took the wrap-around band off and screwed it to a plate.
Obviously doesn't operate the track selection, but that's an entirely different problem. I use my Garmin 660 for my music, and have the ability to skip tracks using my gloved finger on its screen.

For Zev it'd mean fitting a StarCom as well, all he wants is the MP3 so its a bit of overkill
StarCom1 Advance with PP-04 headset (caters to earmoulds :thumb ) plus VOL-02 (http://www.starcom1.com.au/Volume_Remote.htm (http://www.starcom1.com.au/Volume_Remote.htm)) Adds to $390

Hi Dale,
I will go to JayCar and likely build a little in-line potentiometer in the smallest kit box I find.
I can then Velcro-mount it onto the Clutch master cyl reservoir cover, so its easy to adjust on the go.
What OHM resistance would you recommend for the stereo dual gang potentiometer for a simple MP4 player?
I was looking at these:

So my issue was making small volume corrections when road / wind / traffic conditions change, mostly in city. |-i
I couldn't do this very well with gloves and small buttons of MP3. :think1
Dale Mclean advised I convert my playlist to same dB using a free software called www.MP3gain.com (http://www.MP3gain.com) (thanks Dale!) this set all songs at similar output level.
Just popped over to JayCar for all parts, and put together this little kit to control the volume on my MP3 player.
I will trial it for a few weeks mounted behind the clutch reservoir and later, will hide the box under the Left side fairing, below the lockable glove box so that only the volume knob shows.
So far it works like a charm!

The final location for the potentiometer / volume controller |-i
Enclosed in aluminum kit box, sealed with silicone to attempt water resistance and all bolts thread locked to prevent loosening.
Works well. May add 3.5 mm female plug next to it in future.
