Title: Hello From The Pilbara WA
Post by: Davoxt on October 18, 2013, 09:57:52 PM
Good Day

Current ride is my 2009 DL1000 V-Strom has carried me east-west many times, covered over 15,000km on my last trip without complaining once.

The problem it’s a bit light on for towing my camper trailer especially in a strong cross wind, hence I have just brought a very clean 2008 ST1300 with only 10,500km on the clock.

Lived in the Pilbara region of WA for over 20 years and need a bike that has a good fuel range and capable of cruising in comfort due to my aging 54yo wide frame.

Now for some touring accessories a new screen, gps mount, extra led driving lights for the bloody roo’s, throttle lock and a new set of good rubber “oh my aching wallet”

Cheers

Welcome from SA.

The 1300 will certainly be one of the best bikes for that area. I spent 18 months at Port Hedland, transferred with work to Karratha, then partner Heather moved up and we stayed there two years.

Hi Davoxt and welcome to OzSTOC.    You've come to the right place to find out about add-ons to your essentially brand new ST1300.  10,000km on a 2008.  Amazing find, and a great tourer.    I was up your way last year on a round trip from Adelaide to Adelaide.  Have a look at http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=4592.msg53596#msg53596 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=4592.msg53596#msg53596) and you will see some lists of what additions members have fitted to their bikes to suit their particular needs.

Welcome Davoxt. Where in the Pilbara are you? I was in Newman from 1981 for about 8 years.

Welcome to the show Davoxt.

I see you are in Panawonica, brave man.

I was in Paraburdoo for 3 years,(a few years ago now).

Too many gravel roads and lots of cows walking across the road day and night.

I left my Honda CB750 in Perth for those years. Possibly not the best idea I had as it was left in a damp shed, unused and rusted from the inside out.

Don't suppose you will be coming down for a few RTE meetings????

Regards

HOFFY

Ahh Pockey, the only RTEs likely to be in Davos area, will be the one Davo has made. There is nowhere in Davos area, its so remote, that the middle of nowhere doesnt even come close. Maybe Bali is close :rofl

I dunno, an overniter to Karratha or Exmouth sounds good!

 :wht11

Depends on your definition of a far ride !!

If you are referring to a FarRide, only if they decide to have one there. But it is also almost the required distance for an IBA ride ( which can be done any time )

We did a couple of Karratha to Kwinana and return rides during my time over there. The last 600kms between Carnarvon and Karratha never seemed to end.

You better make that 700km from Karratha as I find the 100km before Carnarvon just as bad.
Leaving Busselton this Thursday, first stop Vic Park for tyres, second stop bike show Friday.
Next morning leave Perth around 3am making Geraldton for breakfast hmmmm scrambled eggs on toast, lunch Carnarvon and finally home tea at the pub.
I always done a non stopper 1300km trip home after picking up my new ride, I fine it's the best way of getting to know each other.

Good thing you're a FarRider at heart Dave.  You've chosen the perfect bike for the job.  There are others that will tow, and some are comfortable and a few have decent weather protection, but none have the range of the ST.  Welcome to the fraternity.
