Title: iPhone Mounts
Post by: Marcus on October 24, 2013, 08:22:08 AM
I currently have one of these iPhone mounts I got from Ram

Which I hate. As you can't operate it through the plastic

So I'm thinking about getting one of these iPhone mounts.

What do you guys use... and how do you tackle waterproofing

I have tried 2 or 3 different types of waterproof casings, in the end i got sick of my phone overheating, I have needed to use the waterproofing 3 times i think, all i do now is just put it in the side pocket if I am going to ride into any significant rain, quick showers and the like I have not had a problem of water getting anywhere near it.

:thumb not much help I know, but my experience  :thumbsup

No Dramas at all, Diesel & Shiney also use the same mount, i have had it for 12 months now, I have done about 10,000km or a bit more with it on their and it has not moved at all.

Marcus if your a bit worried about the phone bouncing out you could look at this mount from RAM.

http://www.ja-gps.com.au/RAM/ram-hol-pd3u/ (http://www.ja-gps.com.au/RAM/ram-hol-pd3u/)

It is springloaded at the top and the sides are adjustable with locking screws on the back. I use it for my Samsung Android and it works great.

Just change the order if you want the other option.

The is what I love about this place, everyone has different experiences and opinions, I like the look of that mount Sean, although the X-Grip has never failed me, Shiney and I have had a go at trying to get the phone to come out and failed :)

Graham,

The benefit I see with the one I posted is that it has claws over and under the phone and if the springs give way it is still held in place and the rider has a chance to grab it before it hits terra firma at about 100 km/h.

Not saying the X-grip is bad at all just a bit different.

We have the X-Grip in the car and it works great...very secure :thumbsup but felt it no use to me on the bike as I still needed a waterproof case for the iPhone as I wished to keep the Phone/GPS/Music functions usable and not need stop to put it in from the weather and lose some of its functions.

STreak, does it come with that pretty pink cable or is that extra?
More seriously, is that just for iPhone or universal?

If I remember correctly, you are using a waterproof case with an iPod Classic for your "In-Flight" entertainment.    What is the brand of the case, as I am keen to hard mount my iPod Classic?

Here you go Pete......http://www.rammount.com/images/ramholaq3iu3.jpg (http://www.rammount.com/images/ramholaq3iu3.jpg)

http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045072079076045065081051085/Default.aspx (http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045072079076045065081051085/Default.aspx)

Made by RAM and we use the small Aqua box.....all remains connected in the Aqua box with the 3.5mm stereo plug and 12volt cig plug into the Bikercom system. Only time we remove it is to add music, we use a 8gb NON-touch screen iPod so pause/stop/FF can still be used through the cover. The Bikercomm when turned off also turns the iPod off as well, so all just set and forget.

I personally use the Lifeproof case and belt mount (modified to attach to the left fairing).
The case is waterproof, shockproof and dustproof and guaranteed to a depth of 10 meters.  It is actually designed for extreme outdoor activities.
Using the screen is not a problem however I have deliberately mounted it where I can't use in on the move although it is attached to the starcom via Bluetooth.

So if the ST goes in the drink I can call for help at the bottom of the river.

I've gone this way for my Sat Nav and Smart Phone. The reason being I was sick of having to unplug the Sat Nav and lock it away every time I stopped for any reason and was away from the bike. So now I can just slip the phone out and fold down the sat nav.
