Being time poor like many people in today's fast paced world, I decided to try doing the weekly shopping online from my computer and the smart phone app.
I knew I was taking a risk, but thought I'd write off this one week's test as either a good or bad experience.
For instance - when doing you own shopping in store....
- in the F&V section, you get to pick the ripest apples, the bananas with no spots on them, the tomatoes with no bruising.
- in the dairy section, you get to pick the milk with the longest 'use-by' date, and in the meat section, you get to pick the steak with the right amount of marbling and less fat etc etc - you get the picture. By ordering online, you are assigned a 'personal shopper' (a staff member) who may not share the same ideals as you.
Anyway, the shopping app lets you create your shopping list by searching for items, or scanning barcodes with your smart phone's camera to recognise a particular product, and adding it that way. It also lets you apply your rewards card for discounts and points accumulation, shows you what's on special, gives the itemised and total cost.
When happy, you select the delivery time and date, and pay with your credit card. You even get to select whether you'll accept substitute brands on your choices or not if out of stock etc.
The delivery arrived tonight and I must say i am extremely impressed with my 'personal shopper' who obviously has been trained to make me smile instead of shreik.
Meat was good, use-by dates good, F&V top notch, delivery was on time and was literally delivered to my kitchen benchtop!
All good! Even better was that the time I would have been doing the shopping/parking/loading/unloading was spent setting my STs spotlight aim and replacing her rear brake pads. :thumbsup
Delivery is usually 11 bucks, but the first 3 are free.
And that's my story.
Cheers, Diesel

Great story Diesel.
Here was I expecting a punchline, like, "Now I have to explain to Marianne who this new housemate is." :grin
Glad you liked your order. I still like going to the shops. Then I can buy the impulse stuff. I especially like the "Scoop & Weigh" at Coles. :thumbsup

We've been doing this for a while now, for obvious reasons, and both find it so convenient. We shop whilst sitting next to the pool with a coffee, then chill while we wait for the arrival. Cool!! So easy that now my wonderful wife shops on line for her parents, they are in their 80's and live in Adelaide!!! Who could do anything easier, eh??

Yeah I've been trying to get them to do it here... every time I have to go I ask them about it... sadly though I still have to walk up and down the lanes avoid people I don't like, and getting trolly blocked, and having to make small talk to the check out chick...sigh
