With a beautiful day on the Eastern side of Tasmania today, we just couldn't let it go to waste. Slightly overcast at times but mostly sunny, 8) maximun 19 degrees, with zero wind..............fantastic, but we had a most unusual event happen to us during our ride. Well, I think it's unusual as it's never happened to any of the three of us before, and I'd be interested to know if it's happened to any other members.
We set off at 9.00am, stopping for coffee at Sorell, before heading through Cambridge where we had a quick look at a classic car show, and then taking a few previously unridden (by us) winding county roads, through to Bridgewater, crossing the river and then heading on to New Norfolk on the Derwent River, a fantastic ride all the way, until :eek............travelling at around 110kph we were very suddenly right in the middle of a large swarm of bees that decided to cross the road right where we were, they seemed to come out of nowhere and we didn't even have time to slow down let alone try to avoid them, it was a little like being hit with soft pellets fired from a machine gun.......poor little bees, they didn't stand much of a chance, I doubt that many of them will do that again. We've now got 3 bikes and helmets covered in spots of honey and yuk! I really did feel sorry for the poor little buggers, I don't even like killing spiders! Other than that it was a great ride, after having lunch at New Norfolk, we rode along the Derwent River and returned home through Richmond, Sorell, etc. :grin
Any other members had the same misfortune happen to them?

Nah. We keep our bees in hives. Keeps them out of the traffic. They probably thought the same as you- shame to waste a nice day after the recent pounding.

Some Tassie bees are ENORMOUS!
Gives new meaning to "honey. I'm home"
Good onya Couch - thanks for sharing mate.

I can remember mustering sheep in the riverina NSW, and I had one fly into my helmet and sting me on the temple.....needless to say, I didn't take it very well

Gave you a swelled head?

Fortunately I wear a full face helmet and my visor was most of the way closed.
I said to the other guys, I'd love to have seen how it would have been if a few Harley riders had got caught, with their open face helmets, and no wind screens! :eek

thanks for sharing the buzz :whistle

Just spent the last few hours cleaning the yuk and honey stains of the front of the bike, the worst part was trying to brush it out of the radiator fins. :cuss
Can't get it all out as some of it's buried, >:() but I don't think it'll present too much of a problem! :p

Streak, You have confused me, you wrote;

does this mean that you were stung by a sheep???? :eek :eek :eek :eek

Yes, it has happened to me a few years ago while I was at Port Hedland and before I moved to Karratha.
As one does up there, Karratha has better shopping so about once a month I'd do the trip there (480km return). On one return trip and on one of the many long straights I had a lapse of concentration (my excuse......lol) and found myself sitting around the 150kph mark. At the mid point there's an 80km limit for Whim Creek Hotel and the mine entrance and just past there the road does a right hander and then across a creek. Just before the creek I rode into a swarm of bees.
All about the timing.....if I stayed on the limit or went faster, either way I would missed them.

One of my friends on a club ride today had a bee go in the front of his jacket and sting him. he pulled up in a hurry and did the 'get my jacket off, I've been stung' dance on the side of the road. Wasn't funny for him (not allergic) but the rest of us had a good chuckle at his antics. :crackup
