Hey John
Your welcome to stay at our place on the way up. Be good to do any ride together. We'll likely ride up part of the way on the Friday and make it an interesting run.

That sounds like an excellent plan! Still a few months away, so what bike might you be on :rofl]
Hardy ha flam'in ha :well
Though I guess its a fair comment given the number of bikes I have changed in the last 12 months. >:()
I have booked a deluxe cabin this morning. Has a dbl and two bunks, your welcome to share with Marissa and I. See if you can twist Terry's arm to come for the ride too?
We'll be doing the ride up and back over 2 days each way leaving on the Friday morning.

Hmm . . . Only about 48 years since I last drove thru Rockhampton . . . Offer of company from Canberra -SAAZ - and the opportunity to ride some of the fab roads around Brisbane with Barry possibly as our guide, is pretty irristable . . . Pencil me in . . . :think1 :beer

If you and John can organise your schedule to arrive into Brisbane on the Wednesday. I'll organise a local ride around Brisbane for Thursday, and we'll head off for Yeppoon on Friday. Your both welcome to stay at our place on the way up and back.
Cheers
Barry and Marissa :blu13left
That all sounds purtee good to me Bazz . . . Can we fit in Mt Glorious and a few other good riding roads and coffee spots? :eat
I reckon if John and I leave Canberra early on the Monday we can criss-cross the Great Divide :candystwheelie all the way up to your place arriving either Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. :beer
Should be pretty fine in Yeppoon in June so I'm gonna bring my tent and stretcher, that way I'll be able to camp overnight on the way down and back.
I know it's a few months away but I was wondering if the Townsville mob will be heading down as a group, I'd like to meet up with you guys and ride with you to Yeppoon.
Hi Barry,
Looks like a good idea, Teela and I are going up and back in the weekend, so we are going a slightly different way to you :thumb https://goo.gl/maps/FFMVQ (https://goo.gl/maps/FFMVQ)
this is our base plan
(http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd499/ozstoc/2014-05-15_1136_zps5ec587c3.png)
That's a big ride for a weekend. I must be going soft in my old age ;)
Hi Streak, could I suggest that when you get to Dululu you continue straight past the pub and onto Mt Morgan and down the range.
It's a nicer ride and Mt Morgan is a very old town and you'll enjoy the ride down the range.
The route you show will take you up to Westwood and into Rocky via the Capricorn highway. It's a pretty boring route with not much to see and you'll cop a lot of mine traffic on the Capricorn.
Up to you, just a suggestion.

This is another way we are thinking, will work it out when we get closer, 700km a day on the bike is pretty easy for teela and I now, we have really worked on our breaks, and riding style, and making sure we enjoy the day that sort of thing.

Thank Barry, time will be to short for some, but they do conduct tours of the old Gold Mine works.
A few things re Mt Morgan
- originally had a Rack Railway up the range (shut down when steam finished)
- fire station is the only station left with its original pole (not in use though)
- Mt Morgan had the highest rate of house fires in the country ( this was after the mine closed down .. Go figure)
Hi Barry
No mate it's all dirt and pretty rough. There's a little bit of sealed road either side of Mt Perry. It a shame because the last time I was in Mt Perry they still had the hitching rails at the pub and the old rail tunnel is worth a look at. I wouldn't take my bike on this roads or my car unless it was a 4X4. The roads are very stoney.
The only sealed roads that connect the Burnett highway to the Bruce are ban ban springs - Biggenden Childers or Booyal
Biloela - Gladstone
Mt Morgan - Rocky
No Shiney?
Somewhere further back in the post trail is an update from STilldreaming, advising that he and Kiwiroo are also attending. We'll be heading in from Emerald on the Saturday morning with side trip to MT Morgan (never been there but apparently there's some twisties) getting to Yeppoon after lunch - probably. We may also have a non-ST visitor with us (Geoff on a Yamaha - but he's thinking of buying an ST eventually).
See you then :like

A bit cool! I today diesel he would have the green steam!
In Bowen tonight. Couldn't believe the fog this morning leaving Yeppoon, could barely see 50m ahead it was so thick. Didn't get clear until about 70kms north of Rocky. Was also quite cold so I had the winter gloves until I reached Carmila.
Agree with Dick here! The ride back was uneventful doing the inland route, until yesterday afternoon. Driving winds, heavy rain and the temperature dropping all the time. I had all the gear on, including winter gloves and heated vest turned on for the first time (heated seat and grips also helped) Once I got the screen adjusted to the right spot in conjunction with the visor open a little to avoid fogging and could also see the road, I was home. Should have kept on going somewhere for a few hours to make it worthwhile....

How did the heated vest perform John?
I don't really need one up here but have a few friends that feel the cold more than me that will be interested to know if they are good or great?
