Gents, my 'new' ST 1300A has got about 45K on the clock but I can't find any records of when the thing was serviced last, previous owner didn't seem keen on filling anything out in the book. I have been told that at 48K the beast would be due for a major service including timing belt, so my question is should I get it done now at 45K, then again at 48K, just bring the 48K forward to now or wait till 48K. Any advice from those who have ridden these wonderful monsters for a while?

I thought the timing belt was an inspection at 100,000km and replacement at 150,000km?
48,000 sounds more like valve clearances to me.
I'm in a similar boat, no service records, and even though the last owner said it was serviced recently, I'm gonna give it a going over before I use it - oil, filters, plugs, brake/clutch fluid, brake pads. So I would say service it now, so you know it is done.
A few thousand kms early won't make much difference IMHO. If you are worried about extending the gap to the next service interval, I would just slip in an oil/filter change somewhere in between, then get back on track at the next service.
Better to service too often than not enough!

Well worth getting hold of and looking through.
Even if you never want to twirl a spanner near your bike, it's got loads of useful information - like the service schedule.
If nothing else, you can learn a lot about your bike and how it works, and also know what you are paying someone to do - and possibly check that it has been done!

No mention of timing belt in the maint schedule, does it have one??? valves are at around every 25600Ks

I've just seen a post while googling which suggests that the 13 has a timing chain. My bet would be that it has a chain :wink1

1300 has a timing chain.
From what I've read it's a bored 1100 block with a timing chain making it an overall shorter motor and the compression ratio raised.
Due to the modifications the 1300 is a more sportier and a little more powerful than the 1100 and is so aimed more to the sport side while the 1100 is more the touring side.

The ST13 has a timing chain. I have never heard of anyone having problems with it, and there are earlier ST13s with hundreds of miles on them. ST13 does not feel that much different to the ST11 power wise, but it does have a bit sportier steering - whether this is good or bad or not matter depends on what you want. The better brakes on the ST13 are its best feature, although I do like the idea of EFI.

Thank you to one and all, I'll go and read the manual, but being an electronics engineer a spanner is my hand is like a deadly weapon, so I'll take to my local Honda dealers and get them to do the service early!.
