Title: scraping centre stand
Post by: royst1100 on November 17, 2013, 01:46:35 PM
has anyone had this problem before where as I bottom out on the centre stand as well as scrape centre stand both sides. I'd replaced the shocky but think it's collapsed but it still happened with original shocky. bottomed out hitting centre stand constantly.

Hmmm.  The last item might prove most effective.  Will improve fuel economy also, so doubly beneficial.   :grin

PS new rear tyre is a 150 instead of a 160 so a slight profile difference

The lower tyre will reduce ground clearance.  I found the original shock more prone to scrapping the pegs (damping too soft so compressed easily), along with the original soft original springs (front end rode lower even with extra spacers).  With better fork springs and rear shock I don't get near the footpegs scrapping even though the rear tyre is being used to the edge.

be ok if scraping pegs! but its the centre stand hitting the ground. progressive fork springs years ago. the last rear shock ( for at moment has to go back on) was rebuilt but seems to have a knot in it  (was built once but didn't work as inner parts failed and made a rigid rear end then rebuilt again) seems to be doing same thing. the tyre size is really insignificant (so far as its only around 2cm) for I'm hitting centre stand whilst upright on moderate to bad bumps ie courseways. on lean i'ts the 2 edges of the feet of the centre stand that's hitting the ground

Is the spring holding the stand at the required height?, It should be resting on the exhaust.

replaced shocky with original. the one I pulled of has more oil on it than in it so well and truly knackered. just a test ride now but also modified exhaust a bit to so centre stand is now a touch higher. one more query, new tyre is 150/17/70 instead of 160/17/70 so thats 10 cm by 2.5 cm difference

I found a bend at work that has a bump in the middle, I found out by accident about 2 years ago if I hit it hard enough my suspension bottoms out and it scrapes the centre stand. I now find it a bit of a challenge to try and get it to scrape.
Nothing wrong with my suspension as I have progressive springs front and rear.
