Looks like you'll be faced with choosing one of two camps over this story...
1) These laws are too tough; OR
2) Good! I've always said judges were too lenient!
Read for yourself here.....

Guess it rams home that driving is a PRIVILEGE - NOT a RIGHT!
And I guess each case would be judged on the offenders own merits (demerits) and risk to society.
Cheers, Diesel

If it's used within common sense barriers then yes I agree, but then again I did say common sense........ :well
-
Bahaha that's gold, bring it on I say...
Only people who front up to court have to worry, and by that stage they know they've messed up and will have the pay the consequences and it'll act as a deterrent...
-
Quite a misleading headline - as usual.
"Cops to use licence to disqualify anyone guilty of anything"
Fortunately, the cops can't disqualify anyone. I haven't read the legislation but from the article it says that Magistrates can disqualify.
Magistrates won't take this draconian step lightly. For years they have been sympathetic when asked to allow convicted drink drivers to drive during business hours to preserve livelihoods.

What this actually means is that any and all laws are now attached to your licence. I can just see the Burglar not doing any jobs because he lost his licence. This is exactly the reason why more and more will drive without a licence. Just add the cost too much and don`t care factor. If all this is true, well I for one will be off.
Imagine a piece of paper flies out the window of your car as you drive along, Mr or Mrs Plod stop you and charge you with littering. Then you find out that your licence has been cancelled for 2 years. WTF.
How many honest Johns will stand for that amount of bullying.
Never ever give unbridled power to any govt agency. Qld will be experiencing this shortly. In fact this may have alredy started via the " Show us your intentions to ride so we may approve it scheme"
Just a thought. Wot thuh :wht11
"It may be an offence where the accused used a car to commit the offences; for example, residential burglaries, using the car to get around."

Won't EVER happen...
It's when you actually have to go to court, Proven guilty and are sentenced...It's not up the individual policeman, it's up to the courts discretion.
Chucking paper paper out the window isn't going to do that.

It might not never happen in a sensible world where people rule the decision making processes, but this is rampant with threateningly bad outcomes the first time some dick-head makes the wrong choice! Example, a very short time ago a Judge refused to accept the decision of the QLD Police Force when deciding whether a potential criminal biker should be granted bail, so the authorities changed the Judge to a different one and guess what, the bloke is still in jail!
-
As far as I know, even in Qld, if a judge decides to support a bail application that is generally the end of the matter.
However, if the prosecution is determined, the DPP could challenge that decision in a court of appeal.
Have you got a citation Whizz as I'd like to read the case?

Same argument applies. "Don't do the Crime, Dont loose your licence."
And anyway it would only apply the crimes over a certain level I'd imagine, like shoplifting (anything involving a get away car), stealing, break and enter, anything harming another person. If they are charged then boom licence gone.
I have no problem with that

And if they make their escape in a boat and go fishing. Bang goes the boating and fishing licences?

Yes, all licences IMO
-
Only in trouble if you use the boat to come back to Australian land....a trip to Nauru?
And if they make their escape in a boat and go fishing. Bang goes the boating and fishing licences?

All this reinforces the fact that we live in a democratic society, maybe communism might not be so bad.
