Title: ST1300 newcomer...
Post by: taffmak on December 01, 2013, 03:34:58 PM
Hi all, just joined the forum as I've just agreed to purchase Nathan's ST1300 as advertised here for sale - should be mine later this week.
I've been riding a 2008 VFR800 which I've had from new in 2009 - it's been great for my daily 70km round trip commute but have finally decided to go for a little more practicality and comfort.

Looking forward to getting my Pan and hopefully joining a few rides.
In the mean time - anyone know someone wanting a VFR800 - let me know.

Cheers
Richard.

Welcome Richard,
I think you might have the buy of the year in terms of ST1300. With that lovely seat you will be the envy of everybody here who only has a standard seat.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Well, the funds came through in record time and I picked my ST1300A up last night - what a difference coming to work this morning - had to behave though - had 2 police motorcycles escort me all the way down the M2 - well I rode on their coat tails anyway :)

How accurate arethe speedo's on these things - by my reckoning we were doing 120 all the way?

According to my GPS I'm 10km slower above 100km, it's accurate below that though for some reason. So If I sit on 110 I'm really doing 100

Hi Richard.  My ST13 speedo is consistently 9% slow.  If you ride the speed indicated on your speedo in Sydney traffic you'll be rammed from behind, from what I've seen of them.  Even sitting on the limit is hazardous unless your's following a mobile phone user.  They slow down to limit the accident damage, I've noticed.

Good choice to stay with Honda.  There are other good bikes out there, but few as all-round great or as near-perfect as the STs.

Welcome Richard. Is that the bike with the "French" seat that we have ALL been waiting for a ride report on? Just sayin'

Cheers.

Yes, I believe it is - .  I haven't done a decent ride on her yet so can't give you a full ride report - hopefully very soon though :)
So far it is very comfortable for my commute (only 35Ks ~ 30 - 45 mins), but then I found the standard seat on Dad's bike quite comfy for a quick spin around the block.
How long do ppl reckon before the standard seat gets uncomfortable?
I know on my VFR I begin to notice after an hour and want off after 2 :)

1-2 hours for me... 4 hours and I'm done, can't stay on it any longer.

We've all been waiting patiently for a ride report on this magical seat for so long now I think it's turned into an urban myth

Nathan did 11 hours on it stopping only for fuel so that's a pretty good effort - by then he is an ex bike cop!
Hoping to get a few hours on it on the weekend - pretty sure it won't be 11 tho  :thumbs

What Marcus said, although the Airhawk adds a bit, but its still not ideal.

Hi Richard, welcome from Perth  :hatwave

You should give the seat a good try out by heading to Ballarat next year for the Rally. As for the speedo: when it reads 106 my GPS tells me 100.

Well, only managed to get a couple of hours in on Saturday and that was 2 separate 1 hour stints around the area bounded by Kenthurst, Pitt Town and Wisemans Ferry.  Nothing very exciting to report really - certainly no sign of issues in the derriere :butt department.
Had a run from Nowra through Kangaroo Valley yesterday on Dad's bike which has a standard seat with a sheepskin cover - had no issues with that either, but prefer the posture of mine.

Cheers
Richard.
