Title: God's Squad
Post by: Whizz on December 03, 2013, 11:10:46 AM
The reverend Dr John 'Bullfrog' Smith, founder of the world's oldest Christian motorcycle club, God's Squad, describes himself as a "one-percenter of the Christian movement".

I heard John speak a few years back, and he's autographed a copy of his book "On the side of Angels" for me.  He's an impressive speaker with a great story to tell.

" 'God's Squad members were welcomed as friends into most "so-called outlaw" clubs,' he said.
'It doesn't mean we share the same lifestyle, except we do share the love of being on motorcycles.
Riding in convoy had a magic that was hard to explain to outsiders - and clubs gave men a sense of identity, he said.' "

He's "the real thing"- a really nice guy.  He spoke at our Brisbane CM dinner last year.
He sure has been relating to the One Percenters for a very long time.

As for riding with them, he's very welcome.  Just riding next to one HD for a couple of kays gives me a headache.  I can see why the tough men ride them- it must be like working with a jack hammer all day.     :eek

Riding in 'convoy' gives me a headache, I am very selective about who rides in close quarters to me. I've seen too many idiots  :fp and near misses riding in group formations and I do not like it. :OldMan

I've made the mistake a couple of times and been 'bumped' at close quarters..... I now make sure I have my personal space.
It only takes a pinch of ooops sorry mate to wreck a good ride.

In secondary school one of the God Squad came and gave us a talk (Christian Brothers - I have recovered).  He was honest about his past and how he had changed. Was far more relevant to us as it showed that whatever you have done you can change.
