Good Afternoon Friends,
On Sunday I am planning a ride upto Maryborough - I have gone through the site and looked at different articles that can help me along the way especially the Rider Fatigue - http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=5614.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=5614.0)
I wanted to ask some questions before I left though.
1. My hearing - What is the best way for me to protect my hearing? I went to bunnings and got some ear plugs but honestly they're crap, I put them in and they just fall back out, is there a type of plug I can get that will not fall out or something else? My helmet is one of those Shark helmets costing $599 paid a lot less.
2. I was reading about the Rider Assistance Network, is there some numbers I can get off people as I am heading up there so if I have questions along the way and run into trouble I can get some help?
3. I will be taking ample water supplies with me and food as well, what other things do I require to bring a long with my journey?
I am sure I have lots more questions as they arise.
Thank you
Jason

Ok so here is my ten cents:

I use a moulded earplug, and they have transformed how i ride a bike, they really are brilliant, they lock into your ears and dont fall out! Nicky Steel is really good and gives us a discount to, here are her details:

remember that there are lots of places to stop so don't go overboard, water and muesli bars are a great simple way to carry stuff

There are members up around Maryborough, so if you have the time have a look at the member map and private message some in the area.

Are u going after the Xmas party.
weird but true. Get your bunnings plugs.
wet the end with saliva. Place in ear and with the other hand pull earflap backwards while screwing not pushing plug in.
nip and shape the end of the plug into a sharper point first

A run up to Maryborough isn't quite a saga at 256 km. When I do it, I usually stop at the Matilda just before Gympie for a coffee then ride on from there. There's actually two alternate routes instead of the boring highway- they're about 15 km longer, but nice for the change.
You'll arrive there with half a tank of fuel left and in plenty of time for lunch.
The hardest part is surviving the long 90 kph sections of the Bruce Highway.

I live in Maryborough. What are your plans? I often go for a ride to Hervey Bay for coffee and it's about 35 mins each way.

So heading there Sunday, will have to add the forum to my mobile and will give a shout out whilst I am up there, but definitely like to catch up with some folks up there as I will be making several million trips to the suburb from Cleveland :)
Distance: 278.1km Time: 3hr 20min (approx)

No worries. Maryborough is a good place to live but I usually head from here to visit other places. I have a decent workshop, so make the place available as a safe house if anyone needs help while they are in the area. If it's a nice day on Sunday it would be good to ride to the Bay.
-
Are you free on the Monday? Am tied up Sunday arvo and evening.
-
Should be ok for Monday!
-
Send me a PM with your details and I will buzz you Monday. Just remember I dont know the area so may take me a bit to find you. Did u see the Skype list?
-
So this afternoon I plan on heading out, the weather is looking good, everything else is looking good, lots of water and chewy muesli bars for the journey and powerade.
-
I havent seen a Skype list. I'll send a pm with contact details now.

Arrived safe and sound. Nice cruise. No issues except for the ufo I saw.

Glad you got there OK. Where did you over-night? Gympie? Glad you made it through the Bruce Highway's many hazards (mainly the risk of radiation poisoning from all the speed detectors).
There's a UFO that's parked over Gympie. It's the weird capital of oddities. You thought Canberra was strange!!!
edit- another typo :-[

I took Jason to Hervey Bay today for a ride to my favourite coffee place, the boat harbour and then to River Heads (where you can catch the ferry to Fraser Island).
Enzo's on the beach.

I was looking at Sunday arvo but then checked out BOM, so not sure yet, weather looks crap completely, nothing worse than riding in the rain, plus im going to have to get that headlight fixed once I work out how.
-
Okies - I was thinking of sometime early to mid Jan.
If you get no joy with your headlight, you are welcome to ride up to my place, I'll take you to Supercheap, get the halogens and fit them.
Cheers, Diesel

There's the guest room in the workshop area if you need/want to make it an o'nighter.

Thinking of naming it the 'Tipsy Suite' after the first Ozstoc member who stayed in it. :)

Jason......with your headlight issue you have options....
A) Buy globe / globes and look up ST1300 headlight globe replacement on you tube to get a video of how to...
B) Buy globe / globes and come around to my place at mount cotton and I'll show you how to fit them
C) Buy globe / globes come around to my place and I'll fit them for you
D) I have a globe / pair of matching globes you can buy off me and I will fit them to your bike.
