As people had been talking about jump starters (Link: Amazing bit of kit (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=5390.msg64823#msg64823) )
I had a bit of a look at the ones on offer and decided the "Antigravity Batteries PPS" looked like the best bet, see the example below:
Antigravity Batteries Micro-Start, Starting Demonstration (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bf7u8rQTt94#ws)
So after looking around the place I found a good price from an eBay store: ANTI GRAVITY BATTERIES MICROSTART XP-3 JUMP STARTER / BACK-UP BATTERY NEW IN BOX (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ANTI-GRAVITY-BATTERIES-MICROSTART-XP-3-JUMP-STARTER-BACK-UP-BATTERY-NEW-BOX-/121219281377?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c393b71e1)
I decided on the XP-3 over the older ones due to the smaller size and well... it's newer :grin
So with $146.95 USD less in my account I now have my very own XP-3 :runyay

As you can see in the above pics the unit is tiny and fits under the seat without issue.
Anyway just to prove that it will work on an ST1300 I made a vid and put it on YouTube :thumbsup
Check it out :grin

Good job young man......love your work :thumbsup

Sweet! Plenty of grunt there. And they claim it doesn't lose its charge while in storage.
In true biker style, the blonde model in the background at the beginning should have been given a bigger role!

Brilliant

Great stuff Shiney!
-
Multiple seven second cranks of the Ducati, and multiple starts of the 4WD is a very impressive demonstration. :thumb
-
Looks like a very handy power source. Amazing how much starting power it can generate.
-
Great stuff Dave, looks like a good investment! :grin
-
you need to keep jumping the bike that until it no longer works.
or jump a car until it's drained
-
It would take a while. The placard says it holds 29 Kw!!

Bought one from ebay last night, will be great for travelling.
-
The more I think about it :think1 the more I think this will be on the hint list for my birthday.....Pockey where are you ??? :-++ :-++ :Blow :Blow

Good call :hatwave
A couple of times in the past on bikes and in cars I've found the battery had died on me overnight, and it sucks :|||| even more so if you happen to be ages away from anywhere :fp
So just for the piece of mind of not having to worry about that it is a good investment, but as it can also be used as a power source when camping or just away from mains power, I reckon it's brilliant :thumbsup
Cheers

You might even charge 12v farkles in the glovebox while riding if your cig lighter sockets are being used already.
Great presentation thanks Shiney (as per usual!) :thumbs
Tell me one thing....
I can see the USB cable has the iPhone 4 etc cord - but what are the other two? micro USB? iPhone 5? (close-up pic perhaps?) :think1
Cheers mate.

The one that Shiney has posted is the XP3, but I suggest you have a look at the XP1, it's only $20 extra and you get so much more with it including a carry case. It has exactly the same power as the XP3 but you get heaps more attachments with it. :grin

I went for the XP3 due to the fact it's smaller and that makes it easyer to fit under the seat :grin
But to answer the question here are the pics :thumbs

And rember this cable can be replaced with whatever USB cable you want/need to use :thumb

I came across this at my local Mitsubishi dealer for $130. So I bought one to take to the border with me.

On Monday my daughters 3.4 l V6 petrol Prado wouldn't start due to a door being left open over night. All it did was click click when you tried to start it. So out with my new toy and it started with out any problems. Stopped it and it started by itself, then stopped it again. Again it wouldn't start by itself so the power pack started it a second time.
-
If you watch the video it starts a bike 20 times then goes on to start other things.
I'm happy with mine. I take it away as a back-up power supply for the laptop and to recharge the mobile phone.
-
On the trip to Ballarat for the National Rally the power outlet on Streak's ST stopped working :||||
This was an issue as we were using Streak's phone as a GPS and without power GPS apps will flatten a phone battery in no time at all :fp
So to keep going until we could fix the power outlet we plugged the phone charger into the XP-3 jump starter and placed it in the side pocket :thumbsup
It kept the phone going all the next day :runyay
So it's got a few ways of saving you when out and about :thumbs Definitely a good investment :grin
Cheers

I had watched the video but it was nice to see it work in real life. Mine will spend its life jumping between my 2 bikes. My 08 ST sill has the original battery.

I am planning on putting one of these in my Trailer once it is done, it will able to do many uses.
-
I own and recommend the XP-3 jump starter, I had to jump start my town hack twice an old 2002 3.5l magna while driving down to the servo to buy a new battery.
Not a problem it just cranked it up like a normal 12v battery and its light, about the same as a can of coke plus on my last trip to QLD I forgot my GPS lead so I used the jump starter and it ran all day with out a problem.
Good-By jumper leads.

Not to mention you can recharge your phone and run your laptop off it. It comes with every conceivable type of connecting plug.
-
I've also brought one of these, it arrived a couple of weeks ago from the US ($138UD), it arrived fully charged and they're supposed to hold their charge for up to 6 months without recharging, I haven't had a need to use it as yet, but it will be there if required! :grin
-
but it will be there if required! :grin
Just have to hope it's in the pannier when you need it! >:()
-
It's going to be moving around between the bike and our cars, with most time spent in the cars as I drive far more often than I ride, but.......it will be in the pannier, if and when I should ever need it, along with my puncture repair kit, and compressor, and of course, first aid kit!! :grin

Supercheap Auto have a similar one on special until 13 January. It's rated at 3300 mAh which I guess is at 12 volts.
The anti-gravity battery is rated 12000mAh at 3.3 volts.
It has the 5 volt USB port, but not the 19 volt one for laptops that the X1 boasts.
They limit it to 2500cc engines where the X1 boasts V8 capability.
A year or so ago I paid the $5 to join their "club". You get the $5 back immediately with a 28 day $10 credit and points for your spend which age-out at 28 days. Over Christmas they credited my account with $5 twice, which I cheerfully bought oil and filters with. Then they gave me $13 credit for the difference in what I'd spent, to be used by the end of January. Obviously it's a loyalty device, but I'd usually shop there anyway, and they have some good specials.
-
I knew there was something else I had to buy before too long! I will just add it to the list which has a action camera of some sort on it.
The supercheap club is well worth joining if you go there anyway (Repco sometimes has auto club discounts also worth looking out for) I bought an air compressor that was on sale a week or so later, so I was credited with the price difference.
