If you try and tell me that Facebook is a waist of time, I'll currently defend it to the death or unit I get hurt.
An old firey mate of mine from over 10 yeas ago found me via Facebook. He now has his own Security and training Business servicing mines and industry in the Bowen basin.
His RTO is due for audit in 2014 and wants me to come on board and prepare his company for the RTO audit and then continue on to maintain the RTO compliance.
He's a days drive away in Central Queensland but..... I don't have to move, I can work from home and any assistance I can provide in moving his company into the north Qld mines area will also be part of my brief.
No recruitment, no tests no medicals no selection criteria...
So I drive down to have a face to face meeting with him on Thursday.
The funny thing is, he was a new trainer I had to put through cert IV years ago and then mentor him into being a trainer. He'd heard I may be available and track me down as he knew I was the right person to help him and his company.
Howzthat.
So , to all my OzSTOC mates, keep your fingers crossed that all works out well......

Hi Marcus
I was a Career Fire Officer, I was stood Down on the 18th of September 2012, and dismissed on the 17th of April 2013.
I had a horrible boss who used the Newman Government Staff Reductions to get rid of me after I had lodged a bullying complaint against him.
The new job is right in line with what I was doing as the training manager/coordinator in as far as and (looks Like) I'll be the RTO compliance manager for this company, with the first task of getting the companies training material ready for audit in July 2014. After that it again looks like I'll continue as the RTO compliance manager, assist and/or deliver on some Specialist training as well as developing leads for the company in new mining ventures and bidding on contracts for existing mines.
The company specialises in Security, drug an alcohol testing and fire and rescue training.
Great to read mate. I'm sure I've asked before, but what do you do?
-
Wow, sounds like it will suit you to the ground. Good luck mate, I'm sure you'll exceed

It's kinda left a bit of a bad taste about the fire service I'm afraid Gavo. Although I'm still a Volunteer after much persuasion by the Local Volunteers.
The Area Admin found my National Medal and Service Medal locked in the managers safe, she told the Volunteer Captain of the brigade I joined, he went in and demanded my medals and was told no, the manager believed I didn't deserve them. After some threats about writing to the GG as to why theses medals hadn't been awarded and why they've been locked in a safe for 2 years, the manager reluctantly released them on the proviso that they weren't awarded at any function and that I wasn't to ever wear them. Yep, sure.
The brigade presented them to me at the Christmas doo earlier this month with a standing ovation from the vollies. Very, very humbling and wasn't able to hold my tears back.
So, yep, kinda done with fire services, so no red ST :rd13 I'll stick with my blue baby :blu13

Good luck Sabie - medals in that line of work are certainly NOT handed out frivously and certainly ARE well deserved. Wear 'em with pride ol mate, and best of luck with the job prospect. :thumb

Agreed! The National Medal is awarded by the Governor General for Long and Diligent Service, in protecting life and property at some risk to yourself. Someone has completed the nomination and reference documents to confirm that your service has met the criteria, as the awards are not sent out automatically. I know, as I have been part of the process and completed such documentation for others. Nobody had the right to withhold them from you once they had been awarded by the Governor General. There would be a similar process for the Fire Service Award.
You have my heartfelt congratulations for the awards, recognizing the great service you have given to the community. :clap :clap :clap
-
This proves that you are indeed a legend Sabie :-++ :-++ :-++
Could you put up some pics of the medals for us to have a look at?
-
Congrats on what sounds like a fair dinkum offer 2 continue your career. Good luck with it m8.
Quote from Sabie:So, yep, kinda done with fire services, so no red ST I'll stick with my blue baby
Red dragon ST's (like Wyvern) do not cause dangerous fires but selectively choose appropriate sites alongside the road 2 create firebreaks and any overburns are immediately doused by urination (after all, I regularly top up Wvern's radiator with home brew) - in the 20 years we have lived here with thrice-weekly wood fire BBQ's there has never been an incident.
Red bikes r here to help the community. :hatwave
-
Sabie,
You definitely should wear the medals. My best recollection is that the National Medal should be presented by a senior member of the government. The vetting process is extremely vigilant and old mate would find himself in alot of dodo if they found out.
By the sounds of it you are well rid of the fool. Move on to better things and leave the crap behind.
And they give out blue ribbons for first place also
-
Did you pass the audition Sabie ? :popcorn

Mate, why not get back at him? Drop a letter or two to the local paper and drop him in the poop, after all, what's he going to do, fire you? Dick heads like that need kicking!!!
:nahnah :butt to him?

I agree with Whizz, tell the local papers :thumbs
Also tell "A Current Affair" (see below link)
http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/feedback.aspx (http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/feedback.aspx)
It would be good to get wider coverage on what this moron has done and hopefully stop him from doing the same thing to others in the future :well
-
Sabie, congratulations to you on the awarding of your medals, the presentation sounds like it was most appropriate.
Thank you for your service to the community and the Fire Service :thumb
-
Holy crap Sabie, you should definitely wear those medals with pride.
It's the selfless individuals like yourself, decent cops and the ambo's that don't get anywhere near enough recognition for what you all do for the community.
Mate, stand up and take the gratitude of the country. there's not a lot of people with the balls to do what you have done.
If you are too humble to take it to the press I would definitely ask this clowns seniors or your local polli why he held the medals back. You deserve them and he deserves to get his arse kicked for denying you that recognition.
Good on ya and thanks mate.
Tom.

Hi
As request by Shiney, here's a photo of the presentation of the medals. The other folk are Volunteers recieving certificates for performance throughout the year.
I'll post some close up photos of the medals soon, I've just gotten back from my briefing with the company owners/directors tonight.
As for the news paper unfortunately I've signed a confidentiality agreement with the fire service as a condition to be able to leave with a resignation and not a dismissal and a small payout.
As for not wearing my medals.... Yer right, he can take that and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Nobody has any right to tell you that you cant wear a medal that you have been awarded.

Awesome presentation photo mate :hatwave
I look forward to seeing the close up photos :thumbsup

Thanks Everyone
Apologies for being a little off line lately, my Sister passed away last Wednesday after a long battle with Cancer and I've been on the road travelling with the funeral and such.
As for the Job, it wasn't a matter of applying for it or anything. An old firey mate from over 10 years ago owns the company, heard I was available and offered me a job as the Manager Training Compliance. The company is based in Emerald Central Queensland, however, due to the nature of the job, its a case of work from home so we don't have to move to Emerald and I have an Office in my home to work from.
IN 4 Training delivers First Aid, Cert II and Cert III in Security, Confined Space, Vertical Rescue, Road Crash Rescue, and also wants to branch into Breathing Apparatus, HAZMAT and Firefighting operations. The main customers at the moment are the Mines and the industries that support the mines.
The job is 3 fold really, 1/ I'm to prepare the company for Training Audit which will occur around mid year.
2/ Develop further training programs for the company in the way of writing (Training, Assessments, Review, Registration, compliance and mapping) and as necessary up skill their current trainers to that competency or certificate program. Along with that also looking at the current curriculum and ensuring compliance with current and revised competencies just released and certificate qualifications.
3/ This is a minor facet of the job, look for and seek out opportunities for the company to expand into other locations.
So basically, when I've finished that, I start all over again... around and around we go chasing our tale until the Government says otherwise.
I'll have the occasional trip to Emerald which is about a 7 hour drive south of Townsville.
Thank you everyone for your messages of support and well wishes ..... you're a great bunch of people, no doubt about it.
Oh and I will be at Ballarat, I mentioned the rally to my Boss (haven't said that in a while)and he said go .... I'll give you a laptop to take with you .... Cool :thumbsup
-
Condolences on the passing of your sister Sabie.
On the positive side you are now gainfully employed :thumbsup
-
My condolences to you and your family at this time.
Look forward to see you and your bride at Ballarat.

Thanks Cerebral and Abe
Looking forward to Ballarat very much, I've started Mrs Sabie on a riding routine to get her in shape for the ride and lap around Tassie.
-
Now go to your local medal shop, and have them mounted, and have a copies of the ribbon bar made so you can wear it on you work shirt and on your bike jacket. You are entitled to them, so wear with pride. :thumb

Sabie
My Condolence on the passing of your Sister, Families are so special

Thankyou for sharing the pictures of the medals Sabie, they are brilliant and obviously well deserved :-++ :-++ :-++
It's great to hear that you and misses Sabie will be attending the Rally and that you have gotten a job your interested in and not just a job to pay the bills :thumbsup
Cheers

-
Thanks Brock, there's a really good medal bloke here in Townsville where I'll get him to mount them for me.
Thanks Rosey, Dianne was 11 years older than Me and married in 1974 so we weren't real close only saw each other every few years or so at family functions. I've 2 older brothers who were closer to her.
-
Thanks Shiney, I've just received in the mail today a notice I've been nominated for a community spirit award for the council Australia Day awards.
I'd say nominated by some of the Volunteer Firefighters. I've been nominated before by some Volunteers, I attended the function but there were many more deserving than me. I was paid to do what I did, many who were nominated aren't and do much, much more.
This year I haven't done anything at all but sit at home looking for a job for the past 15 months, I shouldn't be nominated for any award.
-
Those medals are awesome!!!!
-
Thanks Marcus, but keep in mind, a lot of people have a lot more medals than me because they've done a lot more as well.
Then there are those who have contributed so much with little or no recognition as well. They're the real "heroes".
Years ago BP the petrol company had a slogan which I thought really belonged with the Volunteers of our Country, and it was .. "BP the quiet achiever" The quiet Achiever belongs to our Volunteers of all descriptions not just fire.
OK, speech over
Thanks again everyone :thumb
-
Good to hear you got work prospects and finally got your well deserved medals.
Sorry to hear about your sister.
Out NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) Audit is in March, but date not set yet, so it is unlikely I'll make Ballarat.
But if you and Mrs Sabie are passing through Brisbane and need a overnight break we may well have a spare bed.
-
Hey thanks for the offer Gary, it's very much appreachiated, we have a Son in Gladstone a Daughter in Noosa and a Son in Toowoomba we have to visit.
However we'd love to meet for a coffee depending on schedules and any work or social commitments you have on the day.
Cheers Gary

Well, Australia Day came and I was away with the new job. While I was away I received a call from the council, if I could come by and pick up an award for my work with Volunteers.
I'd been nominated by some of the Volunteer Firefighters, now I was suspended on the 18th September 2012 and dismissed on the 17th April 2013. During that time I did have much contact with any of the Volunteers, such is the way it is with suspension.
Picked it up today, and here it is.

My new Boss has a bit of a sense of humour. Last trip to Emerald I received my ID Card, and I thought I'd share it with you.
I was told they didn't have a recent photo of me and had to go by a close likeness.

Congrats on your latest award, oh wise amish minion.
I'm sure i last saw that facial hair on the goggle box circa 1977.
Does anyone remember the science program " The Curiosity Show " ?
That beard is a dead ringer from 1 of the presenters.
I won't be surprised to see you wearing a turtle neck jumper at Ballarat :rofl

all round congrats :clap :clap

Congrats on the award my friend, well done :thumbs
And I love your boss’s sense of humour, that’s an awesome ID card :rofl
I’ll have to see if I can find a pic of my old ID card, it wasn’t as good as that but it was good for a giggle :grin

Well once again I'm employed if only on a casual basis.
After moving to the Sunshine Coast I've managed to score a casual job driving an airport shuttle bus from the Sunshine Coast to the Brisbane Airport for $20 an hour. Had to supply my own GPS, Phone and Bluetooth ear piece. Private enterprise huh..
Start Monday..
Might see you at the airport ... :wink1

:hatwave That's great Sabie :thumb Something to help pay the bills is always good :like
-
Well Leo, it's $20 an hour more than I was on.... :)
-
:thumbs best of luck with the new venture... a change is almost as good as a holiday

Thanks Kev

Good to hear you've got work again even if it's casual. It's easier to get full time work when you've got something on the go.
Remember to wave at me when you drive past the Brisbane Control Tower. :hatwave
Maybe when (if) the Security level drops again, you might be able to pop in for a visit before heading to the sunshine coast.

No problem Gary, I'll be driving a white 8 to 12 seater .... Give me a wave when you see me :hatwave
