Title: Mick's-on-the-Loose Ride - the Report
Post by: Williamson on January 06, 2014, 03:25:38 PM
Thursday went something like this:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/Day1_zps33fd2d85.png) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/Day1_zps33fd2d85.png.html)

Stopped and got a couple of pics at the Noojee Trestle Bridge:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/DSCN0535_zps0da931de.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/DSCN0535_zps0da931de.jpg.html)

Stopped at a ski resort:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/DSCN0540_zps2d102b65.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/DSCN0540_zps2d102b65.jpg.html)

Rode down the South Face Road:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/DSCN0541_zps331c564b.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/DSCN0541_zps331c564b.jpg.html)

That was around 25km of gravel that I won't be keen to ride again.

Overnight at Bruthen Caravan Park, $22.00 per night, grassy site, clean facilities, plenty of hot water for morning shower, short walk to pub :beer , bit further to the Bullant Brewery :beer

A lazy 370km for the day.

Friday went like this:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/Day2_zpsaf473c91.png) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/Day2_zpsaf473c91.png.html)

An early rise, pack and departure from the Bruthen Caravan Park, first stop Bruthen Bakery for pie and coffee, then via 21 The Eyrie, Johnsonville to visit an old workmate (Norm) at Blueberry Fields (more details here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Blueb...18354221533586 (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Blueb...18354221533586)).

Then basically via the Princes Highway with a few detours to a few off highway localities (Waygara, Marlo, Cape Conran, Mallacoota). After Genoa a heavy mist / light drizzle set in, so I deferred Imlay Road until the next morning.

Set up camp at the Tathra Beach Motor Village (TBMV):
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/TathraBeachMotorVillage_zps877b6682.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/TathraBeachMotorVillage_zps877b6682.jpg.html)

(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/TathraBeachMotorVillage2_zps343b1327.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/TathraBeachMotorVillage2_zps343b1327.jpg.html)

Grassy, BIG, sites but a very pricey. I know it's the Christmas - New Year holiday period, but $52.00 per site for one person????

(The Bega TAFE has a course for local businesses - How to Over-charge Tourists - the TBMV proprietors passed this course with honours)

Around 390km for the day.

Would that be on the way to or from the AGM?  Let us know if you are after some company, as not much excuse is needed to go for another ride in those parts.

And there's a couple more days to come yet!

There are so many great roads that the risk is not getting to Ballarat. I will probably being doing some of them on the way (yet again - the downside of living so close..)

Saturday (pre Bombala) went something like this:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/Day2AM_zps4b808b98.png) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/Day2AM_zps4b808b98.png.html)

The Imlay Road was good, would have been great if not for the roadworks. I even got my own escort through a 4km section of works. If you click on these, go to originals and view enlargements you might be able to see the "Follow" "Me" LED sign on the truck roof.
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/DSCN0561_zpsa09dcab7.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/DSCN0561_zpsa09dcab7.jpg.html)

(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/DSCN0560_zpsed11e04f.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/DSCN0560_zpsed11e04f.jpg.html)

Met up with Saaz and Terry (from OzSTOC) and Tony (one of Saaz's mates from some Triumph forum), and then Frank, Fuzzy, Rodger, Gary, Silvio and Lisa (from AusTouring) at the Bombala Bakery.  Good to match faces with Forum names and Forum names with names, exchange words on all things ST.

Thanks to Saaz and Terry for riding 200km to say hello. :hatwave

Frank, Fuzzy and now extended family left OzSTOC and trumpy riders behind and headed for Adaminaby via this route:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/Day2PM_zps0476abd6.png) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/Day2PM_zps0476abd6.png.html)

On the way there were some views:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/TheSnowyRiverWay_zpsae1ccc56.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/TheSnowyRiverWay_zpsae1ccc56.jpg.html)

This was on the Snowy River Way at around 900m about half way between Bombala and Dalgety.

Then just before some tyre kissing and rubbing at Cabramurra:
(http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu159/williamson_photos/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/P1020774-L_zpsdd01f653.jpg) (http://s643.photobucket.com/user/williamson_photos/media/Mick-on-the-loose-ride%20Jan%202014/P1020774-L_zpsdd01f653.jpg.html)

The ride from O'Hare's rest area out of the valley was fast and furious, but I couldn't catch Frank, Fuzzy, Gary and Rodge.  Then onto Walwa for a hard earned beer or three.

Around 485km for the day.
