Title: Just replaced my PR3's with ..... more PR3's *edit :P

On the way home the other day as I changed down gears in a mild corner the back gave a wiggle. 

Got home and took a look at the Tyres.  (could have been oil or diesel on the road)


What I found was the right hand side of the rear tyre had worn the tread off, the left wasn't far from it and the centre was almost gone as well. The front was about 0.5 mm off the wear bars. ( I figure the big Roundabout and the left-hand loop back onto the highway near work are probably to blame  :grin )

I can't claim the longevity of Tyres like Diesel and BigTed, but I'm really happy I got 15,900 km out of them. (The last set just made 11,000 km).  I'm still not driving like Miss daisy though.  :p

That is basically what I get, and am quite happy with it.  Modern tyres are pretty good for the grip they give over the life of the tyre.

Pilot Road 4's out this month but not sure when for Oz. No mention I can see on the Michelin Oz site either.

In the last 8 months I have used both the PR3 and Angel GT, each set has given around 20,000km.  Just replaced with another set of Angel GT as I was unable to pick up a set of the PR3 and besides there was a special on the Angel GT  :wink1

Apart from wear, do you find any real difference between the PR3 and the Angel GT's? I wanted to try Angel GT's as my next tyre, but that turned out to be my MT on a trip, and the shop didn't have the Angels, only PR3's. Having said that, I'm happy with the PR3's I have on both bikes, as they improve the feel, handling and grip on the previous Dunlops on the ST and the original Michelins on the MT. I assume that the only real difference was the price, given the GT's were on special.

In my non technical terms;  The PR3 felt like a soft tyre and the Angel GT as a hard tyre. PR3 went into corners gently and there was a requirement to push the Angel GT over more into the corners (and I must say it felt as if I could lay it over further, not that I would). Breaking in wet and dry for both tyres appeared the same (keep in mind that this was not overly hard breaking).  All in all I would be happy with either tyre.

The new PR4 when it hits oz may be a different story and I will give them a try next if I can.

Try these Diesel, they say 20% more tread life.

I have the PR3's now and are very happy with them, and my big "chicken stripes".

Had a PR4 GT fitted today replacing the PR2 rear only. Fronts not available yet but close. The greatest difference apart from tread pattern compared to the 2 and 3 is that the casing is stiffer across the tread area which lines up with Michelin's claim of the extra bias type belt in addition to the radial belts.

The proof will come out after riding and then more riding. Will comment on results.

I only got 3200 out of my PR4 rear.     :'(
A big nail ripping around in it keeps the endurance low.
I got my front PR4 a month ago when I got my ill-fated rear, so they're definitely available for ST13s.  In Brisbane, anyway.

There are 3 versions of the PR4 as the following link explains, you have the correct version. Put about 500klms up over the weekend with the new PR4GT rear, no comments as yet, always difficult to comment this early in the life of a tyre.
One question though, did you have PR2's previously. I had PR2's F&R the only negative for the front was the increased road noise, otherwise good. Are you getting excessive road noise with the PR4's.

I've been through the series- used PR2s, PR3s and now PR4s.
Can't say I've had road noise issues with any of them.
But then I create too much wind noise to hear the road noise.    :grin

Did you find much difference between the PR2s and the 3s, and if so, what was the difference, I'm interested to know as I have a set of PR2s sitting in my garage that will be replacing my Dunlops with very soon. I should add that I'm not at all unhappy with the Dunlops, but I'm interested to try the PR2s :grin

I used two sets of PR2s on the ST1100 in 110/80 front and 170/60 rear. Great tyre all round wet, dry or gravel roads. Tyre life was 15,000kms or more, as I changed them early due to longer rides coming up.  I have PR3s on a different bike, but they are good as well in the same conditions, tyre life unknown.  Most tyres I have tried in recent years have all been great or better compared to the past.

Same as saaz.  I haven't felt them slip in the wet (although I'm more cautious when it's damp) and I was getting 14000 kays out of the PR2s and 24000 from the 3s. The 4s feel planted. Someone said the 5s are in development. I think it might be a marketing ploy, myself- "If the 3s were good and the 4s better, I've got to have the 5s. Why would I risk changing?"

Now have PR4 GT F & R, my impressions thus far, i.e. 1000 Klms far. Came from PR2's.

Half the road noise from the front.
No brake vibration from the front. On removal of the PR2, we found that the tread has a lip on centre for each groove which sloped back to the next groove. I am not heavy on the brakes, pads last 40k+
More predictable cornering, will reassess after more K's.
Softer ride, even with 44 psi and solo, again will reassess after more K's
Much more stable at high speed, in fact best stability so far compared to past tyres.

A group of 4 riders including me traversed a white chevron in the rain and all slipped. The claim that the PR4 is better in the wet applies to braking distance only, it is in the design of the tread. Does not do much more for sideways movement than before.

Wet paint on the road is not a fair test of sideways grip.  Everything lets go on that stuff!  Even just centre broken line markings.

Fair comment, all very much dependent on the type of paint/roughness etc. There are some lines, chevrons in particular (which we are not supposed to be on) that have a gloss which shines better than the paint finish on the fuel tank.

All 4 riders experienced the same result (all stayed upright) which backs up your comment.

I am just stating that anyone reading the ads/reviews need to understand that the wet surface tests were for braking only. As most of my riding is when dry, wet weather performance is not a real issue for me, if it rains, I ride accordingly.
