Title: Intro
Post by: jolson on January 13, 2014, 07:28:58 PM
I've just bought a ST1100 ex-police bike (2000) that needs some TLC. (The bike that is...) This bike is a project I've just started, begining only a few weeks ago. The BIG plan: To restore this police bike back to it's former glory! where it will stand proudly once more - upon a podium in my living room!!! Yes- you read right! (I know it sounds crazy - but before you judge me; I'm sure you'd  agree, it's a hell of a tribute to a fallen motorcycle officer whose soul was his bike!) This way- he's not forgotten. I understand that bike enthusiasts will be horrified that it will not be ridden again- but this bike's destiny is to silently honor the fallen rider. I have quite a lot of work ahead of me to restore the bike! (Did I mention that I'm yet to buy the property, where I'll build the house, that will have the living room where the bike will stand!!!-I did say I had a BIG plan!) So at present I'm busy looking for pieces for my scuffed, battle weiry & damaged ST1100 which currently resides in a rented garage! (I hope you're not regretting asking me to intrduce myself Streak!!!)  Ride Safe All!

Welcome Jolson......enjoy the forum, lots of information here about the ST1100P model.

Which State or Territory's Police service are you restoring the cycle ??

Have a mate who has not long finished a K100 in full NSW dress of the era, he may have some contacts for you.

I'm from NSW too ST2UP. It would be great if there was someone in NSW who has more of a clue about the bike than me!!!  ...& I hope I've attached this reply correctly for I'm not very computer savvy either!

Lots of welcome messages already, but I'll chime in.  Good to read about a project like this.  You obviously have a strong connection to the bike's rider.
You'll need a big lounge room.  At 2 metres long and nearly a metre wide, they're a bit of a trek to walk around.
What you save in running costs on that one you might like to put into another ST and come riding with us.

Hi Jolson,
Welcome aboard, I have only just got on board myself and slowly finding my way. Your direction is fantastic as it is in honor of one who protects.
All the best on your personal ride.

Cheers

Hi Jolson,
Welcome to the Forum.
I have a ex police (NSW) 2000 model ST1100 in my backyard which is destined for the motorcycle museum in Nabiac. I have already donated an ex police Yamaha XJ900 bike to the museum.
Good luck with the project and if the museum does not want my ST1100P I'll keep you in mind.

Hi all, Jolsen AKA Jeffrey, is the young fellow that swapped out seats back in April. My solo for his duel. He messaged me about a fortnight later while he was about to fit up his new solo seat his bike had developed a oil leak which he was getting a mech in to sort out for him. So its very much work in progress, and I think work keeps him very busy so watch this space....................................................................... :wht11 :law

Title: Project so far...
Post by: jolson on July 03, 2014, 06:49:09 PM
Sorry I've been silent for so long... My project is progressing quite rapidly - in all kinds of directions!!!  I removed all the fairings, scrubbed the bare bike down with kero & a toothbrush then whipped the bare bike down with lanolin. The 'naked' bike came up looking new! A small oil leak appeared. The bike mechanic said it's not uncommon when a bike is not ridden for long periods. I was about to clean down the fairings to send them off to be repaired & resprayed when the next part of the plan began - I moved to South Australia... I left my job - starting my new job next week & I'm now house hunting so my bike will have that room to stand in when this project is done! (this is the most expensive part of the plan!) At present I'm renting & the bike is covered up on the back veranda. It's all coming together!
Cheers!
Jolson.
