Hi all
Just collected my first Honda and a heavy one at that !
Live near Bunbury WA - top spot the south west and a lot of good driving roads...
Been out of biking for several years so its good to be back
Previous rides
78 70's model Suzuki 350 twin (too long ago to remember the model) one of those smokey exhaust things
79 GS850G - Great bike - it eventually turned into a house deposit
95 RF900 - Faaaaaaster bike ye-ha - went the same way as the G
05 TL1000S - Angry bike - had to go or wife would be claiming life insurance
14 ST1100PY - Hope it doesn't fall over cause its gunna stay there !
Time to take in the scenery and I decided on the big girl, plenty of carrying capacity reasonable torque, ample level seat position for the minister for fun & finance
Any way I will search all the relevant threads so I don't ask stupid questions
All right just one - where do I find a top box & mount kit

Hi Frenchy and welcome to OzSTOCC from the SA crew. :hatwave
-
g'day Frenchy, welcome, enjoy your time here on the forum.
A reasonably cheap option is the RJay top box, shop around though as there are a number of different manufacturers of a similar looking topbox and you will find differing costs.

Bonjour Frenchy. Welcome to the forum. There's a video around here somewhere demonstrating how to pick an ST up so you'll be able to drop it whenever you want.
-
Hi Frenchy - welcome. Get a few Ks under your belt and you'll find the ST isn't that heavy... Hope to catch up on an RTE soon.

Welcome to OzSTOC
Enjoy the ride and the farkling :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs
As to a topbox - Forget a genuine Honda one as they are fairly scarce and cost a mint. As the others have said buy a RJays or Givi. You may need the modify or adapt the plate to fit the ST.
Regards,
A.

Picking up on what Totgas said below are a couple of photos of an adapter plate I made to replace the big ugly Givi one that the bike came with.
Essentially it is a bit of 6mm aluminium plate. I cut it roughly to the shape of the Givi mounting base shape with a jigsaw then drilled and tapped about 8 mounting holes.
I attached the givi mouning plate and then ran around the outside with a router with a ball bearing guide bit to get the nice finish. A few stainless steel screws and dome nuts and the whole thing looks smick.
Pity I don't use it!

Welcome mate!

Good to see another ST1100 on the road.
They go forever, you know, and the only way guys have found to escape their charms is to buy an ST1300.
Lots of owners have found decent buys on eBay and Gumtree, so keep an eye out there. There's a rare "parting-out" of a broken ST but the top box is usually among the first items sold.

Hi Frenchy, another welcome from SA.
Top Box/Case for mine is an RJay's one that I bought for the CX500 I had prior to my 1100. To mount it to the 1100 I bought the OEM carrier/rack and secured the mounting plate to it.

Hi Frenchy, welcome from York, hope we catch up soon.

Hey Frenchy, Welcome from Perth.
There is a Givi importer / dealer in bayswater but i forget the name. The guy is actually a Moto Guzzi bike shop.
He got one for wife's CBR250R and was only around $280 with plate and mounting kit.
For the ST, you only need the plate as mine is just secured to the rear grab bar. Pain to fit and take off and a little "extending" of some of the mount holes, but apart from that, solid and works well.
If you make it to Dwellingup on the 1st, I will show you then.

Wow, that does look good.

It wasn't that hard to do, I had the plate and the screws cost less than ten bucks. Looking at the photo I'll probably run a bevel bit around the plate to finish it of a bit more nicely. It looks much better than the original Givi mounting plate.
I am in the process of replacing the OE socket head screws with stainless. The only ones which are a problem are the button heasd ones on the fairings which have a step in them.
