Title: The Inspection.
Post by: nealeray on February 23, 2014, 02:23:34 PM
I have a mate (Mark) from Moonie Beach, near Coffs Harbour, contact me recently to have a look at an ST 1100 that he was interested in from Bikesales. Well, not having much of a clue about said beast, I contacted Abe to inquire whether he would lend his vast knowledge and experience to this venture.

So we met at Maccas at Preston's and sallied forth to beautiful down town Kurrajong to have a nosey at the bike.  The Chap that owns it, Mal, could not have been more friendly or hospitable. The bike is a 1995 model and he is selling as he has upgraded to a 2000 model (yes, it's blue Shiney). Turns out Mal is not a member so card issued and he seems quite interested.  Moving right along, Abe and Mal get to talking, and talking. I learnt more about 1100's in that hour than I thought would be possible. I then took the thing for a squirt and was suitably impressed. Can see why you 1100 riders are a bit precious about them.  Still prefer my 1300 though. Anyhow, Mal made coffee and we talked some more and then departed back towards civilisation.

I stopped a Luddenham for final coffee and a feed and reported back to Mark about the success of the visit and our belief that he was getting a good deal.  Then rode home and found that he'd bought it and was very happy. So it appears that we have made 2 people very happy today and may well have jagged 2 new members. A very productive day after all.

My sincerest gratitude to Abe, the man knows his 1100's and is always happy to help out. Good bloke.

You came up in discussion today as well Chris. Apparently you are to blame for the dirt in Abe's front tyre. Something to do with lack of bitumen surface.  :popcorn

Mal being the escort rider on his Honda scooter

Nice little ride up to see the bike, but on the way home Neale was nearly tail ended by a ute, and then a Kenworth tipper coming onto the wrong side of the road.

Hopefully two more members to the STable.

When I taught English I used to emphasise the importance of ideas being tidily organised.
But I guess we can accommodate a ute and a Kenworth.     :fp

I don't believe we can blame Mal for needing to escort you on a test ride.....couple of shady characters on your door step Sunday morning......wonder he didn't turn the hounds on the pair of you as you came down the driveway  :Stirpot

How great is this group  :-++ well done chaps  :thumbsup

I reckon between me and Abe we could have taken him. He cheated though, makes good coffee.

We need at least one Abe in every State to carry out these expert inspections.  I'm afraid I'm taken in by external appearances.
Well done, you two.

Looking over bikes for other members can be a great learning experience too.  I got to ride what will the closest I will ever get to a new ST1100 ABS model.  Apart from a few more noises in older ST1100, the ride was not that different, so these STs age gracefully.

Nice to meet both Neale and Abe on Sunday morning when they inspected the ST1100 and introduced me to the OZSTOC group.

The escort for Neale on his test ride was certainly not a reflection on his character (unknown to me at that time) but if it was found that I had let an "outsider" loose in Kurrajong village on a Sunday morning unescorted I would surely have been dragged in front of our village elders to explain.

Anyway, if he decided to do a runner on the ST I was hardly likely to run him down whilst I was mounted on the Plastic Pig (Honda Spacy Scooter).

Great to meet you guys,

Great to hear from you Mal, your coffee and company was great.   :thumbs

If Neale did take off with your 1100,  you would have been the owner of a flash red 1300.

Boy oh boy, I was not home yet and your bike was sold, to Mark.

Your blue (there are some blue bike lovers here) is also in great shape.

Please, search the forum and have a look at some rides that are coming up near to you.

OOPS, Shiney will smack me on the bottom if I forget, go to the Forum home page and complete the intro section when you get a chance.  I mean when you are not fixing gates that thoroughbreds have broken.

I hope you enjoy your time here with us.  :thumb

G'day again Mal.  I did appreciate the guided tour of the lovely town of Kurrajong. As much as I was tempted to lash out and give the 1100 a squirt, I'm sure I would have got lost.  I took a wrong turn on the way out when we were leaving. Enjoy the site and the people we are. Cheers.
