Having just aquired an ST that has only done 12500 km, I am thinking of replacing the Metzelers on it. They appear a bit hard and were supposed to have been fitted at 10000km about two years ago. Not sure about all these "facts" and the rear has a fair ridge or flat spot. I think the safest way is to put newbies on even though quite good tread is left. Comments from those who have been here before. Thinking of PR3 or 4.(if available)

if it was me I would replace, and also give the bike a full service as well :thumb

Its your life - respect it. Go the new tyres and a service so you know what you just bought :thumb

Once tyres get old and slippery, you save the $$ spend on new tyres with the first dropping of the bike you avoid. New tyres just get better and better each year.

I would like to add somthing else but......^^^^^^they said it all, enjoy your new ride :beer

I agree with getting new tyres.
Unless you are prepare to go for a long high speed run to take the glaze off, and get some heat into the tyres to get them working again. Most likely though that the tyres would fail, so dont do it....

Thanks for comments. Obvious I guess.

I agree Popeye, if you can afford new tyres and you think the current tyres are a bit dodgy then on with some new shoes.
If the bike has been standing a while the tyres will go hard and therefore slippery. Tyres need the heat to get to them eg riding to maintain their ply-ability. Pop up some photos of your bike when you get a chance, we all love looking at ST's.
