For some stupid reason I applied for work on or about the 19th Of January at Coles Express as an assistant manager which is who I worked for before.
It certainly hasn't been an easy time since then with the stress of not knowing either way. I had a phone interview with the regional area manager (RAM) on the 21st if Feb and being told I would know the outcome by the middle of last week (about the 26th) and I'm still waiting for that call.
Today I sent a SMS to the store manager asking if she'd heard anything.
"Yes, you've got the job but start date is unknown at the moment" was the reply. After over three years of no work another week or two won't matter.
So, I'm off to WA in the very near future and probably within the next week I'll be on my way.

Congrats and good luck! It sounds like a coffee might be in order when you're over here. Are you in Perth and have you got room in your itinerary?
-
Excellent, Congratulations. :thumbs

Well done
-
Goodonya Alan. Best wishes as you prepare to move back to WA, and start your new job. :clap

TY,
I'll be a little further North of Perth. How does Port Hedland sound?
My sis lives in Calista (Kwinana suburb) and I may be going that way depending on finances but undecided at this time. Plus I'm taking the car over this time.

Good luck with the move and new job :thumbs
-
Goodluck to you both Allan :grin
-
Good luck with the move. I suppose this means I have to meet you on the WA side going to a border run from now on!

I won't have to many weekends off for anything as my days off should be mon/tues or tues/wed.
We were planning on this years border run as well so that one is a no go as well.

And thanks for all the comments from everyone else.

:KissBlow Good luck Alan with your work that me teach me to have so many( Animal dogs and cat,) but never mind but I can wait 2 or 3 years till you get a transfer (but look at it this way you will be saving money in the long run :bl11 but I will miss :Blow you like crazy

It's now official, the regional manager called to day offered me the job if I wanted it. I told him I was waiting for the call so I would know when to leave. So I have 10 days to get up there which makes it about the 15th and start work on the 17th.
And a little more money than I expected which is all ways a good thing. Base salary and remote area allowance makes it just over $AUD52,000 plus $6000 bonus at the end of two years or more bonus if I stay longer. Sounds good to me.
-
:thumbs :thumbs :thumbs pity about mid week of but still good to ride anyday
-
You will earn the money, they are 24/7, except good Friday and Xmas day.

Not in Port Hedland.......our store 5am to 9pm seven days a week. Not sure about good Friday, Easter Saturday (is public holiday) and Xmas Day yet. Maybe South Hedland one will open and we will close or it could be the other way around but one of them will be open.
-
I dont think I will be going to Port Hedland for shopping, the ice cream would melt and the milk curdle (eggs would probably hatch as well) before I could get home.

I don't mind days off during the week, and no bike this trip which will make a change.

And you don't think something similar might not happen when your stuck on that parking lot during peak period a few km south of Joondalup
-
Nah,
Got the super market a short walk away, And I'm off the parking lot by rush hour
-
Not long to go now before I leave on the 19th. I had a change of start date and start work on the 24th.
Car registered today, two rear tyres get done Monday and $725 in fuel cards all supplied by my job search provider.
Bed is made up in the back of the car and bike trailer is packed all ready for the trip and just a few last minute items to toss in on Wednesday morning.
I've done this trip a few times on the bike and car but often failed to do the photo thing so going to make up for that with this trip.
-
3 of us leaving Perth area toward Ballarat on Monday the 17th.
Possibly already gone past your place by the 19th. If not you will recognise us I think.
Good luck

I'd only be looking at 800kms a day max and no night driving as the wildlife west of Ceduna (and north Of Kalgoorlie) is not something I want to have an argument with.

I have seen the damage a camel can do and they are so dumb, just stand there either on the side of the road or dead square in the middle.
Met a roo West of Eucla on my last trip back west on the bike, it just stopped in the middle of the road, full daylight, and I actually drove up within a couple of feet of it before it moved off the road.
enjoy the run as much as you can.
Rgds HOFFY.

Good onya Alan, it'll be nice to meet you.

Good luck with your new position Alan, it must feel great to be employed again after being out of work for such a long period. I haven't worked for the past 6 years, well, paid work that is, but, then again, I'm retired hey!! :grin

Thanks.
I wasn't to fussed either way about working if I really think about it.
Regardless I've all ready spent the next two years wages and I haven't earned yet.........lol

For what it's worth, I'm all but ready to leave in the morning.
Rear tyres done yesterday so they're right a few thousand k's. I checked the front ones this afternoon and they were a little low at 22 psi but then the car hasn't been used since the middle of December last year. Also attached bike trailer to the car but I must be careful as I can't see it if I need to reverse.
It must have been a shock to the fuel system when I put more fuel in but only enough (30 litres) to get to the discount site in Port Augusta. Even the trip computer got reset to zero on all functions which I usually don't worry about.
-
Are you coming via Perth,
Maybe we can meet up, and some of the gang.

Unable to go via Perth this trip as funds don't allow it. I was given some fuel assistance and I have to use Caltex Starcash cards for fuel and the fuel stops on the map reflect this.
