Title: Morehouse seats
Post by: Couch on March 05, 2014, 05:28:09 PM
Just wondering if anyone knows if John Morehouse is still reshaping seats, I know he wasn't well at one stage and I think he was working from home for a while, but I don't know if he still is??  Does anyone know what's what??

If John's not his brother was doing similar work....and then there is MJM at Goulbourn and TC (OzSTOC member) on the mid-north coast of NSW so many choices  :like

I contacted MJM, they want $450 to reshape (lower 15mm) and recover the seat, which I thought was a bit steep, particularly when I have to freight my OEM seat both ways as well, it would finish up costing over $500. I can buy a ready made lowered seat new from Top Sellerie in France, delivered for $520, and I get to keep my OEM seat as well, which means when I'm done riding, and ready to sell the bike, "if ever the day should come", I could swap the seats back again and sell the French seat and very likely recoup at least half of what I paid for it in the first place. I'm also waiting on a shipping price on the used lowered Corbin from the States, the guy's away on vacation at the moment and will price it for me when he returns. :grin

I haven't tried the other two mentioned!

Couch,  I pick my reshaped corbin up from MJM tomorrow. (report to follow)

I can tell you for fact, don't waste your money on a Corbin, if you are looking for a seat.

It came with the bike, so MJM has it.

MJM won't touch Sargeant seats, and really doesn't like reshaping Corbin but will, with no guarantees.

MJM prefers to work with the original seat, saying they have more scope for adjustment/reshaping to the customers requirements.

JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Do you mostly travel solo Couch ?? I take it that was to re-work both seats.......at $420, would you just do the rider only  :think1

Yes Chris, I usually ride solo, but...........I'd never be happy just having the riders seat reshaped and recovered, I'm a bit of a stickler for having things match up and every time I looked at the pillion seat it would annoy me no end! I'm beginning to lean heavily towards the "Top Sellerie" lowered seat from France, they already have them in stock and can despatch as soon as payment is received. And I get to keep my OEM seat!

Whilst I still had the ST-1300 I had my standard seat reshaped by John Moorhouse and it physically changed it from being a fairly boring solid setup that got to feel like a brick after a couple of hours into a superbly comfortable armchair (without any actual 'arms'). My mate and I actually took our bikes over to John at home on a Saturday and he worked on my ST and then on my mates VT-400 and effected a couple of wondrous miracles. I cannot speak highly enough of his work, but you have to make your own minds up.

Whizz, if I still lived at Wellington Point, Brisbane, which is just a couple of kls from where John Moorhouse had his business, I'd certainly chase him up as I know everyone speaks volumes of his work, but I don't know if he is still working from home, or if he is still into reshaping seats at all, and it's a little difficult to chase him up from Tassie!

I recently rode 9,200 kms in five days on my MJM seat and it was most comfortable.
I took an air hawk just in case but it stayed in the pannier for the whole trip. I won't be taking it again.
cheers,
Lionel

I have only used four different saddles in my riding, an OEM on the ST1100, the Moorehouse version on the ST1100, a reshaped OEM one and the Sargent on the ST1300. The Moorehouse one on the 1100 hundred was way better than the OEM. The reshaped OEM (ST1300) for very short rides gave me a pain in the back.  The Sargent seat has done a lot of Km's under my butt and I have been very happy with it.

I guess every bum is different, what suits one is not necessarily suitable for another, it's a matter of trial and error I suppose and if you're lucky enough to pick the one that suits first up, then it's a bonus! :runyay
