Does anyone have any experience with these?
http://www.snakeracing.com.au/dually-LED-lights.html (http://www.snakeracing.com.au/dually-LED-lights.html)
They are available as a spot or driving light, are nice and compact at about 81mm square and output 3000 lumens each. They are $215 at the SA 4WD dealer "Opposite Lock"
There is also a 4x LED version with a output of about 1500 lumens, which are $165 each.
-
Have them as work lights on the sides of 1 of our work vehicles.....they are a great work light but I gather you are looking for a driving light ??
As a guide 1 lux of light in laymen's terms is just enough light to read normal sized print on a piece of paper with the light coming over your shoulder..... So useful light from these would be about 90 metres, so will fall within the existing pattern of your high beam, although it would be a nice spread of soft white light it would just have know penetration down the road.

Chris , are your work lights the Dually with four LED's or the Dually 2's with six LED's? Both are available in a work light configuaration as well as driving and spot lights. The sales bloke at "Opposite Lock" says that the D2's are available in a EuroBeam, which is a partial spread, but with a hot spot in the middle, which sounds useful.
-
6x LED Pete.....euro beam is a handy pattern if that's an option :like
-
I doubt the 6" would fit under the mirrors without hitting the side tupperware anyway Pete....which brackets did you order ??
:beer
I was going to order the MCL Under Mirror Brackets. Brackets that mount the lights above the mirrors and thus higher than the headlights are unlawful.
-
There are a lot of guys with driving lights above the headlights on the police light brackets, Ive not heard of anyone being pinged for it. Me included.
in WA DRIVING LAMPS
Driving lamps
are subject to the same operational rules as high/main-beam headlamps.
Driving lamps are designed to complement vehicle high beams during long distance country driving, and therefore are usually installed at the same level as your vehicle headlights, or higher.
Neither Qld nor Vic regs mention max height either..
-
Brackets that mount the lights above the mirrors and thus higher than the headlights are unlawful.
Where did you find that as I've only seen minimum height of 500mm above the ground in our rules or a maximum low beam height of 1.4 metres above the ground.
-
As part of some recent farkling, I've fitted a pair of Rigid Industries, 3,000 lumen Dually D2 LED Driving Lights. I've fitted them on MCL under mirror mounts and the switch to isolate them from the high beams is inside the right side pie warmer. While not in the same league as the big HID photon cannons, I'm very happy with the result. 8)

Yes you do, two of em. You just need to find them..
...
That certainly makes a difference.

You sure Brocky ??? I know a place I can cook sausages but a pie warmer ???
Paul.

Paul.
Do ST1100's have effective pie warmers?
-
Dont know really, might have to put a thermo probe in them and see. Not that fond of pies or sausage rolls.

Not that I've noticed on mine.

Pie... I like pie...

Nice one Pete :clap what's the beam angle pattern classified as on those ?? Normally rated in degrees

I can't find the beam angle quoted in any of the spec docs I have, but Abe's directed you to a graphic. I saw them demonstrated in a darkened workshop and liked the even spread and intensity of the light, so I ordered a pair. On my second run through the Adelaide Hills, and after adjusting the elevation and direction of the beams, I found that they light up the roadsides, and the road ahead, with a lovely flat, even illumination, and give at very least 50 meters more penetration than my H4 55/60 High Beams, and with a much wider spread. They won't singe the fur from the kangaroos at 400 meters, but are an exponential improvement over OEM lights. I like the compact size, which I see as a balance between compact form and useful function. The 6,500k light is a little whiter than I would have liked, but I can live with it.
I've altered this review after adjusting the elevation and direction of the lights. I've picked up a bit more penetration.

3000 lumens is nothing to sneeze at, as it exceeds the best halogen driving lights of not too many years ago using 100W bulbs. A 130 H4 puts out about the same, which I used to use on the highway in a metal and glass reflector on the old Suzuki. I found a spare I had put away, but the 130/90H4 would probably do serious damage to modern plastic reflectors - I will lend it to someone if they want to try it in their headlights :rofl
-
They look awesome Pete, great work and thanks for sharing :thumbsup
-
I run a quad set of these on my GSA and theatre so good I've just put 2 on ST1300, mounted above the mirrors.
-
Boy oh boy, you have been a very busy boy :popcorn with the lights
-
Yeah well.... it's dark out there now.....get to it !!! Don't leave us hang'in :p
:popcorn
-
Ok then, if you get pics or even video to show us we will get of your back....for now :think1

-
I don't have any auxiliary lights so I'm always interested in the different lights people are using and if people find some good lights at a good price :thumbsup
-
Thanks StinkyPete, the bride watched your light video last night, and said "why don't you have one's like that", yes she was referring to the lights.
So, off to snakeracing tomorrow to have a look see :grin, and in my work area.

Gday Carsten, a guide I have always used to give you a rounded figure of amp usage.....you need 8 Amps to supply 100 Watts, so based on your surplus amps you provide you may just get away with 2x 10W LED lights.....I use some 10W flood LED's fork mounted as DRL's wired with switch and relay with the active from ingition, so they remain on at all times the ingnition is on......they are turned out to focus their light at about 45 degrees.... add about 20 mtrs of usable light either side of my High & Low beam, with a beam reach that dosent go beyond my existing 65/55 plus 50% 4300K Halogen when on low beam, never been flashed and adds more night time confidence :thumb

We should be able to do some pictures and a review on the way to Yeppoon, as time on the road to do such things. This would include how they compare to the Ericas so people can decide on the bang for buck question.
Just bought one flood and one spot from Jaycar (Wyong, Central Coast, NSW), $198.00
I just asked the sales person I want (don't need them) one of each, they asked the Manager and he said yes. :thumbs
I'll be very interested in your review. I've been watching these for a long time. Lumens for lucre, they're fantastic.

Throw a gaggle of ST's, various forms of auxiliary lighting together in the shed and when the sun goes down this is what happens........
The HID spot may have the punch down the road.....but the LEDs have a tremendous spread of light that you are not going to be able to out ride :like
-
I have these Dually 2 LED's set up above my mirror pods on my ST1300 and they work a treat and are great value for money.
I also have 4 set up on my GSA, nearly 15,000 lumens and these fittings are tough.....a 100km Roo strike bent the light bracket but the light was otherwise un damaged and works perfectly.
I would, buy them again in a flash.

Who's bike is the one on the left with the cool looking quad lights at the back of their auxiliary light?
-
Guilty ;-*
But don't get to excited Dave......that's just the spillover light that the camera collected from around the lens cover on my under mirror mounted 55W HID....you don't notice that at all from the riding position.....cool effect though :like
