Title: Hi from Mike in WA
Post by: Mikes96 on March 07, 2014, 06:44:24 PM
Hi all, just a quick intro here... Mike is my name (no surprises there I guess) and a few weeks back just picked up my first ST1100 having not spent much time on bikes over the last decade. Going on a bike tour across India later this year so thought it wise to get back in the saddle and clock up some miles again before the tour.

The ST is a bit of an old banga being a TP model - I think that is right, T being 1996 and P for Police... Has 170k on the clock and obviously has seen better days but goes alright considering and looks tidy enough.

I do need to look at replacing my final drive gears as they are badly worn and will post up some Q's in an appropriate tech section later on...

I have a couple of projects on the go (kinda) being the restoration of a 42 WLA Harley and a 68 Convertible Mustang. I think I need to try focusing on just one... Perhaps

Born and bred (and still living) here in the Wild West of Oz I have travelled quite a bit but not so much these days.

Look forward to any advice and good humor...

 Hi Mike,

I split your greeting into another topic, as it really didnt fit in Hi from the USA

I too am in West, Kinross to be exact. Welcome to the Forum, the WA are pretty active, so keep an eye out for an RTE near you.

Hey Brock... Yeah thanks for that I realized I had accidentally posted in the wrong forum and was just about to try and do something about it.

I am in the northern suburbs also though not quite as north as you... Over closer to Wanneroo.

Have just been reviewing Allan1100's post on his final drive replacement and some of the reference pics look exactly like the state of my spline  :H

Hoping to just treat it gently for a while and start hunting around for the replacement parts for the ring gear and final driven gear along with necessary seals. Prices don't look TOOOOOO over the top and really just wanting to keep it on the road in a safe condition.

There was a recent post about some one parting out an ST on gumtree that had a complete drive section. I will see if I can find it and put in the link.

Here it be

FAR OUT!!! Will take a look at that. I presume the 1993 Goldwing frame and mechanicals are the same items as the 1996 ST1100...?

Don't know enough about interchangeability between Goldwing and ST as I am still learning... Your advice appreciated here Brock?

Just spoke to the guy and it all sold just a couple of days ago. Bloke is coming to pick it all up tomorrow. Apparently the buyer manages the WA Goldwing forum - or something like that...

Welcome Mike  :clap

What do you mean old banga  :well  My 1996 P model has 216,000kms on it and runs fine (may be a bit loose around the edges though!)

Plenty of life left in it.   :wht11
