Title: Radio
Post by: IanB on January 28, 2012, 09:53:37 PM
Was wandering around the web last night looking at farkles.
Found a mention on an US ST site abt waterproof radios for $125  Couple guys have bought them here in OZ
Whitworths Marine have a little number called the GME GR200 which is a waterproof AM/FM radio and can either fit into the security pocket or be mounted on a dash shelf.
Big, easy to hit buttons and it can be run through the starcom unit or its single speaker. Or wired to twin 4inch to fit the ST vents.
Says it will accept an MP3 player connection also.
Waiting for dale at dmme to get reply and tell me if that would track through the radio into the starcom.
Nowhere near as big as the normal car radios.
Trying to figure how to lift the upper cowling a little to get some channel clips in to build a dash holder. Don't want to pull it all off - any advice?
And that leads to how to wire it - might have to pull the cowl off completely to be able to drill and drop leads.
Help all you techno heads.
This guy shows you how to get it off

Change of plan. Now trying to figure out which ram ball/holder combo will allow me to mount the radio between the bars.
Motorcycle larry has a need little piece which go where the logo is between the bars but will have to find a flat plate to put on it to hold the radio "gimbal" mount.
Anyone know of a retailer in Brisbane or south east Qld where I can go and see a range of mounts.

What about using one of these

or something like it and mounting it above the clutch?

Are you going to use speakers? If so what ones?

Motorcycle larry has the ram ball mount that goes between the bars.
Just need the extenders and mount above to put the radio rack on.
going to put the ph on a m/c larry ram ball on clutch but not that version. there is another which uses the mounting bolts for the reservior. And on the other side will be the UHF.
going to Bris. found a mob called Johnny Appleseed who stock the extra fittings.
Radio will be piped through Starcom to helmets. Or it has it's own single speaker to be used when not wired to Starcom.

No idea about the Ëxotic" stuff, but have had a couple of these and they are first rate. For $25.00 delivered off good old American Ebay, they work, their simple, you can use em with gloves and their pretty waterproof, I think theirs none better. I just throw the speakers in the bin and hook it up to the Starcom and it works a dream
