Hendo, Nigel, Helen and I took a detour to see the Cheviot Tunnel on our way to Tungamah. The detour route was mostly good quality sealed road, there was an exception, Point A to Point D on this map.

A to B is Frog Pond Road, B to D is Cheviot Road - Native Dog Road, the Cheviot Tunnel is at C. If you want to check this out at some stage, I would recommend you don't ride these roads after some rain.
:well

Beautiful brickwork!
Can you ride through it? It appears you can at least walk through.
A great find! I love that sort of engineering.

You can, but you are not supposed to, hefty fine if you're caught, unlikely to be though, but not (IMHO) worth it.
We walked around 1/3rd of the way.

"..... The tunnel was constructed from an estimated 675,000 handmade bricks using local clay".

Hmm, well worth a look sometime.

So what is the length of road from A to C and from C to D?

So what is the length of road from A to C and from C to D?
A to B = 4.9km
B to C = 3.8km
C to D = 5.9km
At B you cross Limestone Road (a sealed road), if you wanted to minimse the dirt / gravel ride you would enter Cheviot Road at that point.
If anyone is planning a route using Google Maps, you will need to use walking or cycling modes.

Great find..... :thumbsup

Not unless your on a trials bike.
I drove through this tunnel some 10 years ago when in the area with my four-by. Left home about 42 degrees ac crapped out :H that morning, but do remember it being like 15 degrees in the middle of the tunnel it was one of those family days. I am guessing it has now been heritage listed that's why only foot traffic and horses are allowed.( Do wish they would clean up after themselves ) :grin :wht11
One day I'll work out how to upload some pics? Wot thuh
