As far as I'm aware this is the first RTE by OzSTOC to this venue. I checked out the ride last week and some of the scenery is amazing.
NOTE: this is a slow paced ride with much of the roads posted at 80kph or less.

Contact member for this ride: Totgas
Don't forget to bring your camera and some walking shoes. Swimming costumes and a towel for the hardie ones!

Directions:

I have two travel recommendations 1) Start at Meadowbrook (near Logan hospital) and follow the attached route. 2) Leave the Natural Arch early enough to have the time to travel down to Murwillumbah and then north back to Brisbane.

No worries, I was aware of the conflict however I'm sure there are enough riders who will pass on the Yepoon ride purely due to the distance and the time factor.
Hope you have a great ride.

It does not hurt to have other options for those not lucky enough to have the time to go further. Sounds like a place well worth going to, have to keep it in mind.

If you already know the  Nerang - Murwillumbah Rd road, the following can be considered to be egg sucking lessons, and for that I humbly apologize.

Most of us will be going to Natural Arch via this road (otherwise known as the Russ Hinze Raceway), the "local knowledge" is that the police are actively enforcing the speed limits right through to the border.

In recent months I have been spotted with a laser thingy, breath-tested once and radar-ed twice. It was reported in the local rag that the police have said they would use some sort of device mounted in an aircraft. I think I saw one of those out on the Beaudesert - Rathdowney road ages ago, but I've never been aware of it at other times. (Doesn't really concern me, I very rarely exceed the speed limit).

Anyway, if you do stick to the limit (80 kph), and I mean stay near the limit through (almost) every corner until you get to Numinbah Village (strictly 60 kph), you will have fun. I think it would be safe to say it is a well surveyed and reasonably well maintained bit of tarmac. Unless its wet .... and then I am always guided by the advisory speeds.

There is a reasonable chance there will be plenty of motorcycle traffic on the road and I have often seen riders think they are Agostini and hang out over the double lines, coz they think its faster and they cant wait to get home because their bike is so bloody uncomfortable and my god its hot in my ever so special leather racing suit and the bloody electrics are dying on the Duke, or the middle piston on the Trident is over-heating and why won't that bloody tin-top get out of my FU**Ing WAY - YOU FU**ING IDIOT! Bang!

Mind you, you will also come across many gentlemen riders on this road.

Of course, your results may vary.

I headed off from home and did the run down to the Oxenford exit and rode up to Tambourine.  From there I headed to North Tambourine before going up to Mt Tambourine and then down the hill to Canungra.  Turning left and heading back towards the Gold Coast before turning right and heading down the Numinbah Valley.  Glorious weather all the way.  Stopped at a lookout and appreciated the view.

I arrived almost bang on 12 noon to find two white ST1100s already there.  Fortunately they had not wandered there by themselves and had brought their riders with them.  8)  So a chat with Adrian and Ian was in progress when Carl and then Sean turned up.

Inside and we were quickly served and out into the glorious Qld sunshine for a bit more of the chin wagging and  :eat and some laughter.

After we were well fed and rested we decided to head off.  Sean and Carl headed for home while Ian, Adrian and my self went to the Natural Arch and went for a walk along the track.   It has changed a lot since I was a school boy.  I remember going for a swim there, but you can't any more and for good reason.

http://youtu.be/vXRQ8UCSjE0 (http://youtu.be/vXRQ8UCSjE0)

After our walk we ambled back to our bike past (well not quite past)  the ice cream van, and made plans for the return journey.  We opted for teh rest of teh run down the Numinbah valley to Murwillumbah and then onto the Highway and home, because the weather was starting to close in.

Through the back of the Gold Coast we copped some heavy rain, but the forward momentum meant I remained mostly dry.  As we eached reached our exits we waved goodbye and continued toward home.

Another successful OzSTOC RTE.

Thanks  totgas. ++

Thanks Gary for your company (and the rest of the gang) and the report. I was going to post up a similar report however when I arrived home I found that I had made a fatal poo par with my camera - turned it on when it was upside down so my footage of the trip down was all upside down. Interesting perspective but not the one I was looking for. Guess I will just have to do that one again.

Had a great day, especially enjoyed the trip home despite the storm. Makes a great traffic clearer, three ST's.
Cheers,
A.

I think the two STs with Flouros and the other white ST just has the perfect effect.  I think you and I should lead any future rides.  :grin

I enjoyed this ride! I wimped out on the (walking) excursion to see Natural Arch, and went home via Dungay, then Tumbulgum and up the motorway to Burleigh Heads.
