Title: New PR4's
Post by: Grumpy on June 20, 2014, 10:05:48 PM
Well I got me a set of Michelin PR4 GT's for the 1100 (1300 sizes).
Now to get em fitted and see how they go.

They can't be any worse than having a radial rear and a cross ply front, now that's an experience in tipping it into corners.

Will update when fitted and tested.   :hatwave

You must be old.  It's been a while since you could buy cross-ply tyres, methinks.  I could be wrong (again), especially only having come back into motorcycling in 2006 after 14 years out of it.

Maybe cross ply is not quite the correct term. Probably bias belted is more appropriate. Whichever way you say it, the BT45 front is non compatible with a radial Pirelli Angel ST on the rear. Makes for interesting times in corners as they behave very differently.

Will be mounting them up as soon as I get the balancing sorted out (either beads or weights, not sure which yet).

Well, I got them mounted and after following the tyre guy's recommendation, removed all previous weights and made sure the barcodes on the bead were aligned with the valve. This is supposed to be the balance point for Michelin tyres. I was sceptical, but after a test run to 160kmh...no vibration, tyres both in balance.

It feels like a new bike, with the standard screen and the PR4's, much more stable, particularly on turn in. Steering much more responsive as well.

One happy guy here.  :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :grin :thumbsup :thumbsup

Sweet, many thanks Grumpy. Will get a few more km's from mine yet, but will definitely be getting the PR4's.

Wow!  Lucky to have a race track handy.     >:()

Anyway, you're set for 20,000 plus kays now.

No race track, just great outback roads. There are only 300 or so people in this town and there are a number of back roads that are not patrolled. Also lots of straight bits too.

I'm hoping for the kind of mileage you quote.
