With these cold winter nights we all care about our bikes this guy maybe takes it to far or he loves his bike alittle to much :-(((

Nah, that's understandable.
I thought you were going to suggest keeping the battery warm somehow, because these cold mornings really detract from their power output. It's when the dying ones are most likely to cark it.

I know a bloke who keeps his Triumph Speed Triple in his lounge room.
I know it conjures all sorts of images of what the house is like but apart from the Trumpy in between the plasma tele and the china cabinet you wouldn't pick it from any other normal middle class Aussie suburban house. Really loves his bike that bloke.
Apparently the story goes, his missus got so sick of him spending hours in the garage with the bike she jokingly suggested moving it into the lounge room.
So he did. And it has been there ever since.

I think he spilled some superglue and is stuck on the bike and does the best he can to sleep.

Last service before the FarRide I got them to take out the 6 yr old battery and install a new lithium Iron battery. They reckon they hold a near full charge until its needed. I hadn't touched the bike since the FarRide over 4 weeks ago. Two days ago I went out to check tyre pressures and she started with heaps of spark. The old battery would have been close flat after 4 weeks, :H but the LI one had heaps of charge. :runyay I was impressed as it was damn cold. :clap :wink1

Could you tell me where you got the Li-Ion from and what price? I love Li-Ion's and have changed all my gagets to this kind of batteries for the same reason' Specialy the Li-Ion P are the ultimate, for the time being at least.

My Honda dealer (Griffith NSW) sourced and installed it. $198 fitted. Its a lot lighter than the old lead acid battery as well. :wink1

I just installed one that gives 360 CCA. It was dearer at $250 delivered from eBay seller in Sydney.
Another advantage: the gel cell I had weighed 3.86 kg. So I shed over 2.5 kg, quite an amount on a bike.
The L-Ion weighs 1.19. It came with 13.6 V charge. The starter motor thinks it's on drugs. :grin

The same one as Turtle cited above.
However I bought the LFP20CH-BS which is $80 dearer but more powerful at 360 CCA rather than the LFP14H-BS model which gives out 290 CCA.
The price includes postage. My only complaint was they took a week after I'd paid for it to put it in the post. Post Sydney to Brisbane took two nights.

Be aware the photo at the top of the page Turtle put up has the wrong polarity for an ST1300. The illustration further down at the Specs section is correct. You would not be able to stretch any cables to fit because it's all moulded into the battery cover.

Maybe some of you think this is a silly question but I still will ask it. Can you push start a ST1300 with a week batterie ?

You probably cant, not alone.
It all depends on how much life is still in the battery, you need enough to run the computer and provide that initial spark, run the fuel pump, injector pump and the headlight. You would also need a good slope, and some very good friends to do the pushing.

Thank you for your advice. I did overlook in my thoughts that the head light cant be switched OFF and draws a lot of current and would kill a week battery in a very short time.
Thank you and I will be taking even more care about the battery.

The headlight will flatten a good battery in about ten minutes, never mind a weak battery. Never do prolonged power checks without starting the bike.

Just ordered the same one as yours Biggles as I've noticed my original battery's a bit weak when starting the bike. Not sure if I'll change it over when I get it or carry it in my top box in the event of the original failing. Decisions, decisions!! :fp

Not a lot of point carting both around. I know you'd like to get the last bit out of the old battery, but the change-over is a job you'd prefer to do in your warm garage than in the windy rain on an icy slope.
Besides, what-if, for some unknown reason, the Lithium battery didn't deliver the goods on installation?

Good point mate, I'll change it over when I receive it, even though you're not likely to find me in the "windy rain on an icy slope" I'm a fine weather rider and only ride in the rain if I get caught out in it, and most unlikely to find me on an icy slope! :eek

With 3 degrees in Brisbane a few days ago and the coldest morning this winter in Nubeena 4 degrees.............I rest mine......Ha!! :grin
