I've recently fitted a Powerlet connection direct from my battery to my magnetic tank bag to enable me to power my iPhone or for numerous other uses if needed......I can also use it to charge my battery through the Powerlet plug if necessary.
-
Thanks for posting that. I hadn't looked much at the range of things powerlet does. The various SAE connectors they do look interesting as I am thinking about rationalising some wiring and use more SAE plugs.

Powerlet has a huge range..............very good quality products!!

Nice one Couch
What tank bag and where you get im investigating for maybee a coms set up ect

My tank bag is a "Joe Rocket" that I had sent out from the States, but you could use any tank bag Rob...............the fittings are all available from Powerlet and it's just a matter of cutting a hole (I used a heated knife blade) in the bag + 4 holes for the small bolts to go through, and there you go!!
PS: I heated the knife blade to red hot and it just sliced through the bag and the lining and sealed the fabric as it went. Did the same to make the holes with a heated spike (could use a heated nail)................that way it keeps it all neat and tidy.
It only took me about ten minutes to fit it!! I ran the wiring direct from the battery under the tank and was able to do so without taking the fairings off.....except for the small one that gives access to the battery.

Here is a photo of the inside of the bag :)

Very nice Couch except for -10 points as the screws arent in safety. IE there needs to be two threads clear through the nylock nuts.
Its a safety issue, as vibration could cause the nuts to fall off.

You can pick up a OEM tank bag from the states for around $250 inc postage.
If you want to see one on a 1300, we'll have to meet at a RTE so I can show you.

Thanks for that info Brock...............I had originally had them done up tighter but I found that the plate on the outside of the bag became warped as it's a soft/medium plastic not metal. The directions that come with the Powerlet fittings suggest not to tighten too much. I doubt that I'll have vibration problems with my tank bag..............it's not like being fitted to a fixed metal frame of the bike where vibration could be a problem.....................I've had no problems over the last couple of thousand kls but I'll let you know how they go over time though.
Keep smilin!!

I was being a bit tongue in cheek Couch, tho in the aircraft industry I couldnt let that pass.

I can understand that mate........and I know you're right in what you say. I would never do it if there was any danger to ones safety if they came loose. It wouldn't be too difficult to get hold of four slightly longer bolts, and I'll do that if necessary.
I flew hang gliders thousands of feet in the air for 5 years and I know how important it is to have everything tightened correctly.

Nice job their and a good idea as well :thumbsup Have seen em fitted on Tank bags standard but you pay for it. Seen em wired up for both a charging sourse and to power a GPS thats on top of the bag

Nice work mate :thumbs it looks awesome :thumb

Hey Brock, I suspect that sufficient vibration could cause any of our nuts to fall off!! :eek :crackup
Cheers
