Title: Charities funded by OZSTOC in States and Territories
Post by: Malcolm6112 on July 24, 2014, 11:26:08 PM
We all have our favourite charities that we like to support.

Just an idea, when we do a ride or an RTE, may be each participant could pay a small amount that in the end gets donated to a charity, from OZSTOC as a group.

By ourselves $5 or $10 doesn't seem like much but multiply that by ten, twelve or more over a two month period and it adds up. More rides, more money.

Alternate charities each time too.

I like the Idea, and thanks

But I'd rather not, donating is a personal and in my case private matter, I don't announce the things I do, because I'm not after recognition.

And TBH, I'd rather not not HAVE to pay every time I went on a ride, even it's it not compulsory, I'd feel like I was getting forced into it. Odd man out kind of thing.

Sorry if this sounded a bit harsh, not my intention

I agree with both and maybe gold coin $1. Who collects and holds though.

I think it's safe to assume most ppl agree with the sentiment of donating to a charity of their choosing.....

The transparency of the collection, safe keeping and deciding on a charity could be our issue  :think1

Cheers

I have to say I am not keen on this, I was part of a a bike club in Townsville, everytime you went to an event your hand was in your pocket, while some of us could afford it, many people stopped coming as they could not afford the spare dollars, and didn't want to look like they could not do it so they simply didn't turn up.

I would have to say I would vote no to something like this.

Our charity is to our wonderful membership who we help out year round, and the people that are part of the club who do it a bit tough and we help them out.

Just my thoughts.....

I rarely donate, I dont give to dorr knockers, tin rattlers. A lot of "Charities" eat most of the funds in "expenses" so a waste of time.

I applaud the sentiment though

Interesting comments so far, perhaps those that register for a RTE or any event for that matter, pay just $1 to the Ozstoc account anonymously of course, via paypal or dd or what ever, there are no records kept, but a pool of monies  are then donated to a charity, decided by our admin crew as they see fit. No one is under any pressure to donate, nor will any body know. A couple of cents worth to consider..................................Thanks/ :wht11

I am a bit uncomfortable in discussing this, as has been said above it is a personal thing if we donate and to whom we donate.  For instance I may have a charity that I donate to that others may disagree with, I do not wish to make others feel uncomfortable nor do I want to feel uncomfortable with my choice.  I may wish to go to one of the current organised RTE's but not agree with the charity, do I now not attend or do I feel compelled to donate?

Maybe if someone wanted to organise a rte for a specific charity (including collections and then distribution of funds) then they could post it up in the RTE section, then those that wish could attend and make a donation to the named charity.

I too applaud the sentiment   :clap

No need to apologise for expressing your opinion just like others have done  :-++

But you know what  :think1 we do help as a club.......think about the money we bring into a small community with our RTE's and Overnight RTE's........the RTE to Gratham was a great boost for that struggling community after a natural disaster.

Something we could all consider when we plan our future RTE's  :think1

 :clap  Good idea.

I'm also mindful that there are a few pensioners among us as well.

I also don't like to make a big deal about where and when I donate.

In light of recent revelations about Care 4 Kids charity being de-registered, you would have to choose the charities carefully.

Perhaps there could be a charity component to which applies to just the National Rally.

I agree with original sentiment, and understand other views too.  A possible amendment could be to pick one RTE each year to support local charity eg bush hospital or similar. Could be done individually and anonymously for anyway who feels inclined at the hotel or venue. Just putting it out there. ppopeye
