My nearly 16 yo son received a letter from school today. He's been awarded a scholarship for his remaining years at the school. This follows on from him receiving a cash prize last semester from the Uni lecturers working with the High Achievers program at his school.
On top of this, he's been selected as one of two Darwin students for the inaugural sister city exchange with Ambon, Indonesia (our school has hosted Ambon students for the last few years, but this is the first return trip). Fully funded by the two councils, he and his mate will be going to Ambon for two weeks, billeted with the Mayor of Ambon, attending school there, participating in a wreath laying ceremony at the war cemetery celebrating the anniversary of the release of the last WWII POWs in Ambon. His teacher told us that this is the first exchange for any Australian students since the phone tapping scandal, so there is a lot riding on the trip being successful.
What more could a mum ask for????

"Nothing more, Wendy ... Nothing more than the gift of children that amaze their parents."
I was going to leave this post as is but I can't let such parental yuckiness go without apologising by telling my latest really bad dad joke (that convinces the kids that their parents are nutcases) ...
(And in your tradition of cringing jokes) ...
"Did u hear about the mathematician with a weight problem":
He had a 2 Pie Arse (circumference of a big bum) ... :p ;-*

Good on ya mate.
I often despair what will happen when the Gen Y's take over running the joint but, with the two fantastic examples of young Aussie men and women like the two examples we've had recently I think we'll be right!
