Gidday my name is Col and I am 59 years old. Been riding since I was 15, owned Suzuki 50, BSA 350, '51 Triumph 650, XS2650 Yamaha, Suzuki 250, Honda CT110, Honda CB550-4, Yamaha XS650 Special, '83 BMW K100RS (last 7 years) and now a 2000 ST1100, purchased dead a couple of months ago and now registered and learning to get on with me.
I'm a mechanic so I've always bought projects, improved them, consumed them and moved them on.
The ST is the nicest and newest and lowest K's bike (48,500) I've ever owned.
Just getting used to Japanese thinking after years of German thinking.
What I don't like... Seat too low, aftermarket seat I may have to swap or modify, pity because its in great condition, but I'm 5'16" and that's too tall for this seat.
... Exhaust too noisy, no evidence of tampering but it has an annoying bark around 3000 rpm. Have jammed a drilled welch plug up the rear of the mufflers packed with steel wool. Yet to ride it and try it out.
My bike is blue but the paint code is white, suggesting it may have been a cop bike that got converted. The paint is scratched and touch-up paint is hard to get but Big W has $4 nail polish at present that has a too purple colour (105) and a too blue colour (929) that mix up to a pretty good match.

Welcome to the forums Col! Enjoy your time here mate.
If you're interested, I've a spare set of std exhausts for the 1100 that I'm not using that you're welcome too (they have been drilled out, but not too loud and are reasonable looking). I'm interested in your seat though if your not too keen on it (if its a double!).
Anyway, welcome again.
Cheers!
Nate

Thanks every one for the kind encouraging words. Spent a few hours with the Mrs on the bike and found the following. The muffler mod seems to have worked, thanks Nate for your offer but not needed right now. Seat works better with the sheepskin but would consider swapping with similar good condition higher one. Had battery troubles, no time yet to test charge rate, hopefully just needs new battery. Taillight blew two fuses in a row. Swapped fuse for ammeter and only drawing 1.8amps, so for now running with 20A fuse. Ready end bottomed out hard enough to cause 2 days of neck pain for Mrs, with preload on 4/5 and rebound seized fully in. Suspected stuffed shocker but found it fitted backwards! Was trying to adjust staked plug, not adjuster! Fitted it correctly and adjusted it 1\2 turn out, seems better but needed to get Mrs on the back again to confirm. Bike seems a both of a mess but I'll sort it out. This forum is awesome., thanks.

PS, any apparent nonsense on my contributions can be blamed on predictive text and lack of proof reading. I don't have a computer and this phone sometimes decides to substitute words. You'll work it out. And what does RTE mean?

RTE = Ride to Eat :eat :beer

Hello Col, a warm welcome to the world of OzSTOC, keep an eye out for an RTE in your area.
Pockey :grin

RTE = Ride to Eat :eat :beer
An RTE is in essence just a destination for us to ride to and meet up, have a chat and a bite to eat.
Everyone can find their own way there and back (No pressure to ride with a group that rides to slow or to fast)
However :think1 :think1
Some people may offer meeting points for people that would like to ride together, if anyone wants to ride in a group :blu13 :blk13 :13Candy
Others just ride solo and meet at the RTE destination :wht11
The main point is getting out for a ride and having a great chat with like minded people (and a good feed :thumb)
Cheers

Hi Col - welcome mate - I'm just down the road at Caboolture, and always enjoy the SC Hinterland roads - might see you guys out and about real soon.
Cheers, Diesel

Gidday Diesel. I hope they don't call you that because you filled your bike with diesel by mistake! Hey I'm 6'4" and have a low seat. I put a sheep skin on which helped and some foam under that which helped more. Do you reckon anyone with a good high seat would do a swap? Other than that and a non working fan thermo switch (I've fitted a manual switch) the bike and I are settling in well together. Col

Hi Col,
I've got a standard seat you're welcome to try (and vise versa), if it works for both of us, I dont mind a swap. I'm in Brisbane, but travel up the coast regularly. msg me if you like.
cheers!

I too am what you'd call 'tall timber' and have had my seat raised by John Moorehouse Custom Seats to suit, as my knees used to get quite sore after hours from being bent so much.
Here is a pic of the seat....

Thanks both of you. I'm often working RACQ on weekends and at TAFE weekdays but sometime we'll get together Nate and try a swap. About once a month I visit my son in Brisbane and will contact you then. And diesel, do you run standard gearing? Your long range fuel tank explains why you need a better seat! You could lap Australia with that.

Col,
Dont ever mention filling the tank to Diesel, its a touchy point :beer

Thanks Brock, might be too late for that. I'm an RACQ patrol man some weekends and have come across this on a bike so he's definitely not the first. I thought all these were responses to another topic but they seem to have started a new one. I don't really know how to use these forums.
