Can somebody please let me know the cylinder numbering used on the ST?
Is it numbered as if sitting on the bike looking forward or some other way?
If my forgetory is working correctly, my old side valve Ford V8 numbered them looking at the engine standing in front of the car, bonnet up, Left 1, 2, 3, 4 and Right 5, 6, 7, 8 where 1 & 5 were in front.

This might help. Cylinder numbers and firing order are in the top right corner. :thumb

Seating on the bike
for ST1100
FRONT
Cyl 2 Cyl 1
Cyl 4 Cyl 3

Thanks guys,
Interesting because the above two posts don't agree with each other.
The image of the ST1300 engine shows ... that siting on the bike,
Front
Cyl 1 Cyl 2
Cyl 3 Cyl 4
Where as the second has it,
Front
Cyl 2 Cyl 1
Cyl 4 Cyl 3
It think it gives a clue in the image because it is likely the leading cylinder that is #1. Thanks very much. (That's a good picture of the engine by the way, tnx)

Abe says the second one is the ST1100.

I seem to recall from looking at the left head on mine that the numbers are embossed on the head.

Yes, front left is cylinder one....

If you check out the plug leads they are numbered, I am just replacing plug caps and the right side cylinders are 1 and 3 so the left side back would be 2 and 4. Hope this helps.

If you can only find 3 or there are 5 then there might be some thing a tad out of place..... o:) :Stirpot :nahnah :fp
