Exactly a year ago to the day I replaced the water pump mechanical seal in my 2004 st1300,and after only 16000ks its showing a small leak from the tell tale hole. My thinking is that after returning from Alice the radiator came out for a service and l did other minor things but the donk was sitting there over winter with no coolant around the seal so maybe its been damaged.I use Honda blue coolant s2 as it doesn't have the silicates in it that do damage but its been in for 4years and done50.000ks,To all the guys that replaced there own seals did you press the impella all the way home to seat on the shaft and does any one alse use the Honda s2 coolant Thanks for any help Brian

I don't use the S2 coolant, I use Golden Cruiser which is manufactured by Suzuki... And yes, when you press the impeller home, you have to press it right up to the bearing where it won't go any further. The impeller shaft has a shoulder that needs to be pressed right up to the bearing inner race... I used a 10mm long socket pressed up against the inner race of the bearing whilst I pressed the impeller in using a hydraulic press.... You also need to press the mechanical seal in with a hydraulic press as well.... Tricky business...
