I once threw away a perfectly good cordless drill because the battery died and I couldn't find a replacement (probably before the internet became the global marketplace).
About a year or more ago my 18 volt Ryobi cordless drill battery carked it. I found the Ryobi replacement was about 10% less than the price of a new drill. Then I found this brand on the net:

1500mAh and holds the charge very well. It's ever-so-slightly different in size to the original, but fits fine.
They communicated well when I asked about my drill's model.

I`ve got the reverse prob. I have a brand new, used once, Ryobi drill and three batteries cant find the drill have all the batteries though. I`ve seen it but can`t remember where...............a bit of OCD creeping in me thinks..............it`l turn up i guess :grin..... :wht11

I replaced the batteries in both my GMC and AEG drills a few months back and so far both have been running well.

Have to have a look as I have an old Makita as well (circ late 80s), but it is basic compared to the newer ones

Replacing cells in batteries is fraught with complications. There's electrickery in batteries best left to Brock and Co.

Well you can buy them as individual cells or as packs/inserts. The GMC pack I bought needed the terminal swapped over from the original battery pack, and then the new set of batteries were inserted into the old case.
No soldering or welding onto the original batteries is required, 'cause as you say "there's electrickery in there"

Just whip into Battery World.
They have the batteries there and at a quick glance I think they might be cheaper than the a cell site.

2006.. all 3 of my 12v drill batteries died, I made a belt mounted leather hip pouch and drill holster, fitted a 1.2 metre curly cord to my drill, and utilised a 12v gel-cell sealed bike battery in right hand pouch for power, the holster on the left. (cross draw?) Left me with both hands free climbing ladders, etc (Sparky) Made a nice lightweight tool, without a battery fitted.
In construction, 3 fully charged batteries were sometimes required for a days work.
Never had the bike battery go flat during a days work, which often happened with all 3 Ni-cad batteries supplied.
The day I retired, one of the apprentices at work had a cordless drill failure, and I gave him my drill, belt, and charger.
(actually, he popped in for a coffee here a couple days ago, and informed me of the fact that He still uses it to this day, 5 years later.) ... it is now 8 years old! That damn battery has lasted longer than the one fitted to my bike!.

That's a mighty heavy load to be carrying on your belt.
I guess the reason it has lasted so long is it doesn't experience the heavy cycles the bike puts on a battery.
One of the new 12v Lithium batteries would be much lighter, but twice the price.

I have been looking at the lithiums in the local bike shop, about $110 or so for the smaller one ..... been thinking of making a new pouch and holster as I have another failed pair of batteries on a Metabo drill, which would be very handy here at home for the odd job or two.

Most decent drills these days are 18v. So that defeats the bike battery gambit. Unless you find a lithium packing 18v.

The Metabo is an older 12 volt model, and quite adequate for what I need. ++
