Title: Newbie

Hi everyone, thought I'd introduce myself.
Currently living in Canberre ACT and working within Customs, however a life change is afoot and my wife Helen and I will be moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2016 once I have completed my studies.
We both love riding our ST1300 (2008 model with all the extras).
My nickname Candles is a story best told over an ale or two. But it involved a 2700 foot free fall with a broken parachute during some military in 1992.
I hope to meet you guys and share the passion for STs and motorcycle riding. In the near future.
Cheers
Candles

Gday Candles welcome to OzSTOC , you will find a wealth of info here and a great bunch of people.
I moved away from the Sunny CoaST almoST 5 yrs ago, and get this. I was and STill am called Candles by some friends there. I ran a candle making business in Nambour ,Wickhead Candle Co,  and had a STall at Eumundi Markets fo 12 yrs..  but your STory sounds different if it included parachutes. you could tell your STory at the National Rally next year in Toowoomba.

Great to have another Canberra member.
If you survived a "candled" parachute fall, falling off a motorcycle would be nothing.  (Don't do it, just the same).    :-(((     :grin

Welcome Candles to the passionate world of ST's and those that want to be ST's. What everyone else has said so I won't bore you, however, we do have an RTE (Ride To Eat) at Greenwell Point this Sunday that you might like to join. It's very informal, we ride singularly or in groups at our own pace, arrive at the location, catch up or meet up for the first time, check out our respective farkling with lots of oohs and aahs, then we get down to the serious business of stuffing our faces. Often we make plans for another ride sometime in the future whilst apologising to those that have such a short ride that barely get a chance to warm up their bikes.

Bye for now  :hatwave

Welcome Candles from Kaleen  :beer

There is a ride down the coast this Sunday so let us know if you are interested as I am just thinking about the route there (meet up at Robertson with some others) and the way back (back through Nowra,  Nerriga and Tarago).

I think I will be staying put in Canberra for a while longer but who knows...

I just returned from A two day stop over in Bendigo fixing a mates Harley. He is almost coming over to an ST  ;-*
I'll keep an eye out for rides with you guys, the format sounds great.

Cheers and have a great weekend

G'day cobber Candles.   :hatwave  I hope that candlestick wasn't the one I witnessed at Bandiana in 1992 at a practice for the RAEME 50th Birthday?

I was walking between the mess and the boozer, looked up and saw the candlestick and froze with my heart in the mouth.  There was palpable relief when I saw that one cut away and another chute deployed.

Anyway, there were a few close calls that week with an Iroquois Chopper running into the power line to the beacon at the top of the hill behind Bandiana.

Hope you can make it to Toowoomba in March.

I never had a chute candle, but rushing into an aircraft one time, I hit the doorway fairly hard with my back pack, and bent one pin on the ripcord.
As a consequence, it was impossible to deploy the main, even with a double handled pull, so I had to use the reserve.
Friends on the ground said they could hear my abusive language in freefall.  |-i Apparently I got quite vocal.

Hi Kev, it's nice to read your safe and well after that experience with the chute fail. It's quite an experience when something goes wrong and your options are limited  :crazy

I stay mostly on the ground now with a pair of dunlops. So much more control  ;-*
