Hello out there!
From rural Aberdeenshire - West from Aberdeen.
Just like riding my bike and hearing how others are using theirs.
Jealous of your weather and eager to learn more because as Gran said, - "every day is a day at school".

The next thing you need to do is buy an OzSTOC shirt, and seeing as we both have a Perth, Western Australia is closer to Scotland then Queensland, and I used to wear the Gordon Tartan when I was in the Boys Brigade Pipes and Drums Band, you may become a fellow Sandgroper (West Australian). :runyay
Then get over here for breakfast one morning, get your pic taken with the rest of us in our shirts and you'll become a part-World Record Holder..............................How does that sound? :thumbs Failing that, send a life-sized photo of yourself, wearing the shirt, Oh, and one of your bike, to one of us here in WA and you can become a de-facto part W/R Holder.

Seeing we have our own Tartan, both my siblings are accomplished bagpipers, i have been playing rugby since i could walk, and my dad is a the biggest scrooge since McDuck, and my Kilt & Sporran are hanging in my Cupboard, we just might have a claim or two to the Scottish side of the world over here to!

Rugby? Rugby? What the hell's Rugby got to do with it? They play Caber-tossing in Scotland. Are you trying to tell me that you do a bit of tossing as well?
Blowing up cat ar$%@ doesn't count as playing the pipes. Your wife's gingham dress and mouldy pinny don't count either.

Thanks all. Scotland is a lovely part of the country to ride in (I know it's a small country when compared to your own). All we need now is your dependably good weather and it'd be perfect.
Can't claim to be a Scot as I'm originally from the same part of the world as Dave Roper.
Been trying to put some videos of our favourite rides on the tube under NH478M and the name's Paul.
I'll have to start saving up for that breakfast ride over there!!

Have been to Scotland twice and loved it both times.
And for those banana benders (Queenslanders) trying to trying to claim some Scottish connection you will have to work hard to over come a connection with the Black Douglases :wink1

Welcome aboard, have a look around and ask if there's anything you need help with or info on.
We have a fairly comprehensive 'How To' workshop board, and the members here are all full of........... helpful advice. :eek
Also have a read back on the older posts to see what we have been raving about, and finally, post up some pics or vids of your travels around Scotland. I'm sure we'd all love to have a look at your stomping ground mate. There's probably goin to be a few 'where'd you get that?' or 'how'd you make that work?' questions from interested members.

The wife and I have started to work just three days a week so this year the plan is to really give the bike and the RV some punishment seeing as much of Scotland and continental Europe as we can possibly squeeze in. She's been a primary teacher all her days and I'm in civil aviation having worked international in oil and gas before that so running down the pressure a bit seemed a sensible thing to do. So while exploring some more on the bike...
...if I get any pics of nice bits of up here, I'll be sure to post them.
Does Glen have connections with Scotland to have made two visits?
I spent a very short spell in Perth, WA years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. A wonderful environment. I was fascinated with Fremantle and loved walking through Kings Park of an evening. A visit to the Perth zoo was partly responsible for me fitting the bike with a bug catcher. Our Scottish Midges are legendary for their itch factor but my mind keeps going back to the vision of a Senior Keeper at your zoo and who was showing me around starting to swear, duck and run as some humungous black and yellow beasties seemed to be making a bee-line for the both of us.
He said they were highly aggressive and really nasty and I admit he did call them a few rude names... but anyway as we like open face riding here - if we can get it - I figured I would do something to stop our domestic and much smaller wildlife becoming intimately acquainted with my beard and other facial bits at speed. If it stops our Midges it'll stop anything and it doesn't mess up the behind screen aerodynamics!! :)

Paul,
Family goes back to the early Douglases of Scotland but it is a few genarations since we moved to Australia, my niece has done a lot of work on that but I haven't caught up with it it. My two trips were about 15 years apart. I certainly remember the midgies from my first trip, we were almost eaten alive.

Got the site sorted - looks good. Thank you. Too true, once experienced the Midgies are not easily forgotten. Experience tells me that 'skin so soft' fom Avon works really well. from the jungle to the Scottish West coast it works a treat.
