Sounds interesting? ... with dry weather, and a 5.30 am departure, I could make that!
Mark me down as a 'possible', weather depending. (Would take really heavy rain to discourage me)

Having a serious think on this one... might ride up the day before, stay o'night Murray Bridge so I am nice and fresh when I arrive at Swan Reach. Saves an early cold start, and its only a six - seven hour run home for the day.

About 240 km for us or just over 3 hours according to Google maps......leave home at 8:30 am should do it.

Kev, I went over on a similar trip last year and stopped at Bordertown. Not a bad little park and easy trip over on Saturday ( Although Swan Reach is a little further from Bordertown than Mannum.

I am now looking to do this one as the weekend for Tungamah(Vic) is now double booked, as long as there are no blizzards predicted.

Might go via Bendigo and either Pinnaroo or Mildura. Can any locals suggest the best or most interesting way. (not via Broken Hill though)

Ppopeye,  any road from Melbourne to Swan Reach involves many kilometers of open flat mallee country once you hit SA.   I've ridden Ouyen, Pinaroo, Tailem Bend road many times, and it's simply a transport section.  Heading west from Paruna is the same.   Loxton to Swan Reach, does give you a look at the Murray at Loxton, but to get to Lonxton, again there is many kilometers of flat mallee country.   My choice would be straight across the main highway to Adelaide and then turn off at Murray Bridge and go via Mannum, across the ferry to Bow Hill and on to Swan Reach.   The route on the attached link is probably the most interesting and scenic.  https://goo.gl/maps/rK8A4

Thats much as I thougt. I have a daughter in Bendigo and thought I might break the trip and try a different way. I dont mind the mallee country, and I think I hate trucks more than straight roads. We will see. Thanks for the tips.
Unfortunately nearly all the trips this year are open country more than hills. (Eg Swan Reach, Balranald, silverton. Perhaps Ill have to go to Silverton via the Adelaide Hills and the Barossa :runyay )

Coming from Bordertown to Swan Reach via Pinnaroo heads you back to Tailem Bend https://goo.gl/maps/Ucyfj  so maybe the more direct route is better. The other option is Bordertown, Pinnaroo, Loxton to Swan Reach https://goo.gl/maps/gWwOh

The more direct way from Tailem Bend To Murray Bridge and stay on the eastern side of the river all the way to Swan Reach as well. https://goo.gl/maps/26bCS

Pinaroo to Lameroo, turn right here to Karoonda. Then towards Murray Bridge, turn right to Burdett and on to Mannum, over the ferry and follow the river to Walker Flat, back over the river again (on another ferry) and on to Swan Reach.

I should still be ok for this even though the bike is booked in for fork seal (includes bushes) replacement on the 22nd. Just need to make sure any oil doesn't get to RH brake pads.....so far so good.

Steering shimmy started last Friday after encounter with a pothole, un-nerving. Stripped front end down today.
Left front fork has internal injuries, very little damping effect, its more like a pogo stick.
Also bottom head stem bearing cage has collapsed, and bearings are all to one side so the steering geometry is a bit kakky skewfonkered. Unsure if parts will arrive before the weekend, but can't book it into the bike shop until next Monday. Looks like I have to reluctantly cancel run to Swan Reach RTE next Saturday.

The front tyre got changed over last Friday and due to the cold weather/rain I've just managed to get the wheel reinstalled about 15 minutes ago. Still a little muck to clean off around the right brake mounting/delay valve and ABS sensor mount (from leaking seal) and I can get it all back together tomorrow or wednesday. Even cleaned the front wheel before putting it back in.

After a chilly start to the morning with a mixture of fog, a little drizzle and no sun at 9:40 am we made into Swan Reach at 12:30. Usually we're the first but we were last to arrive for a change. Also at the hotel was a group of women riders who rode up from Adelaide and stopped at the hotel on their way to Burra. One of the girls asked if I could take a group photo or two which I did. After realising a couple of the girls were missed, Linda took another one for them.

We all went our own way about 2:45pm and we arrived home at 6pm and lot colder than what it was in the morning.

Chris & Pete (StinkyPete).
