Having a serious think on this one... might ride up the day before, stay o'night Murray Bridge so I am nice and fresh when I arrive at Swan Reach. Saves an early cold start, and its only a six - seven hour run home for the day.
Ppopeye, any road from Melbourne to Swan Reach involves many kilometers of open flat mallee country once you hit SA. I've ridden Ouyen, Pinaroo, Tailem Bend road many times, and it's simply a transport section. Heading west from Paruna is the same. Loxton to Swan Reach, does give you a look at the Murray at Loxton, but to get to Lonxton, again there is many kilometers of flat mallee country. My choice would be straight across the main highway to Adelaide and then turn off at Murray Bridge and go via Mannum, across the ferry to Bow Hill and on to Swan Reach. The route on the attached link is probably the most interesting and scenic. https://goo.gl/maps/rK8A4
Thats much as I thougt. I have a daughter in Bendigo and thought I might break the trip and try a different way. I dont mind the mallee country, and I think I hate trucks more than straight roads. We will see. Thanks for the tips.
Unfortunately nearly all the trips this year are open country more than hills. (Eg Swan Reach, Balranald, silverton. Perhaps Ill have to go to Silverton via the Adelaide Hills and the Barossa :runyay )

Kev, I went over on a similar trip last year and stopped at Bordertown. Not a bad little park and easy trip over on Saturday ( Although Swan Reach is a little further from Bordertown than Mannum.
I am now looking to do this one as the weekend for Tungamah(Vic) is now double booked, as long as there are no blizzards predicted.
Might go via Bendigo and either Pinnaroo or Mildura. Can any locals suggest the best or most interesting way. (not via Broken Hill though)
I should still be ok for this even though the bike is booked in for fork seal (includes bushes) replacement on the 22nd. Just need to make sure any oil doesn't get to RH brake pads.....so far so good.++
Cannot make this now as will be InterInterInterstate with work.
Thanks Pete. I may be back but at this stage Im away.No trouble at all.... :thumb
Will love to come if back. Can I let you know the day before if im back?
I should still be ok for this even though the bike is booked in for fork seal (includes bushes) replacement on the 22nd. Just need to make sure any oil doesn't get to RH brake pads.....so far so good. The front tyre got changed over last Friday and due to the cold weather/rain I've just managed to get the wheel reinstalled about 15 minutes ago. Still a little muck to clean off around the right brake mounting/delay valve and ABS sensor mount (from leaking seal) and I can get it all back together tomorrow or wednesday. Even cleaned the front wheel before putting it back in.
Steering shimmy started last Friday after encounter with a pothole, un-nerving. Stripped front end down today.
Left front fork has internal injuries, very little damping effect, its more like a pogo stick.
Also bottom head stem bearing cage has collapsed, and bearings are all to one side so the steering geometry is a bit kakky skewfonkered. Unsure if parts will arrive before the weekend, but can't book it into the bike shop until next Monday. Looks like I have to reluctantly cancel run to Swan Reach RTE next Saturday.
Buggabuggabuggabugga!
Happy to meet at Mount Pleasant, where a outs and what time do you plan on getting there. Be good to ride in company.
Great ride report Alan
