Title: Unusual Visitor
Post by: StinkyPete on November 09, 2014, 08:33:28 PM
We found this chap in our front yard tonight, calling out to the girls.   We do see them from time to time.

Got a local one comes by every few weeks, sits up the tree at my driveway, or on the fence next door, and I live in the main commercial business block in town.

This is on the footpath outside my kitchen window.

If you didn't know what sound the males make when they are looking for mates and you heard one on a dark night walking through the bush you would swear you are about to be attacked by a lion.
We had one in residence for a month and a half in a tree outside my daughters bedroom window one time.  The noise every night was that bad I sharpened the chainsaw ready to cut his house down.  Pickings must have been slim in that area because he up and left before I got around to it.

Possums are the other harmless looking creature that makes an horrendous sound when announcing it's presence.   :eek
Here it is....   Possum screech (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkncjNn-ygE#)

Here's the koala sound for anyone who hasn't heard it.
What sound does a koala make? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPdaU9A-RqU#)

Those bloody possums are not the benign cute little furry creatures they appear either.  My old Dad was feeding one apple of his verandah one day and one bit him on the finger. It had some sort of infection because his whole hand swelled up and looked like a football. Years later I had a mate over and we had a possum on the deck. I told him not to feed it and bugger me if it didn't bite him on the big toe and the same bloody thing happened his foot swelled up like a handball.

Starve the crows!  What do these animals think they are?  One wants to be a fire engine and the other thinks it's water buffalo.
