To the Mongrel boot users,
Just wondering what style you have chosen? I was looking at the non-safety black 961020 Zip Sider boot or perhaps the 951020 Black High Leg Zip Sider.
Has anyone a comment on the soles? Sometimes the foot goes down and if there is a bit of slippery stuff like a bit of oil or sand, it causes the adrenalin to kick in as I try to keep upright.
Feedback would be most helpful.
Piet.

I have had my current pair for around 2 years, they have workn really well, have ridden about 35,000km in them
They breath well and are super comfortable but are not waterproof but that does not bother me at all.
I wear mongrels for work as well so I am an unabashed fan of them
Grip is excellent

I just want to share my experience with Mongrel Boots.
I purchased a pair of zip siders and at first was very happy.
Then I found that the thread that attached the zipper teeth to the zips backing cloth was abraded by the action of the zipper and then the teeth come away from the zips backing material. I could easily pass a pen between the teeth and the zip backing.
I went back to the Boot Warehouse and they did not want to know me. I took it up with the wholesaler, Victor Footwear. They did not warrant it but did offer to replace the boots at wholesale price of $80.00 because I had used the boots over the 12 month warranty period.
Eight months into the second pair and the same thing is happening. I wrote Phillip Cloros at Victor Footwear again but they now say its damaged by external abrasion to the outside of the zip by looking at a photo I sent them.
The thread that secures the teeth to the backing is completely hidden by the teeth for its full length. So thats a load of crap. They also said that if I had an issue with the zip then I should take it up with YKK themselves. The greasy low life logic that drives some people when they just cant accept that less than a year in ordinary service, is not a warranty situation, when they claim they warrant their products against faulty materials and workmanship.
Be that as it may I cannot recommend Mongrel boots as a product and more importantly because you have no warranty, and you are forced to deal with people lacking integrity.

Thanks for the warning. :fp It's rather sad that once they have your money, they loose interest in standing behind their product.

You would hope they are modifying their manufacturing process. This would appear to be a completely avoidable fault.
Surely you're not the first customer to experience this problem. And don't any of them wear their own products?

I've had a pair for a couple of years and not had that problem. Zip sided, suede leather which I bought through Streak.

:think1 I have a theory that many companies that produce quality products are at times subject to the "Friday syndrome". That is products created on a Friday or day before a public holiday are subject to error due to the manufacturing person thinking about the weekend or time off instead of concentrating on the task at hand. So mistakes are made and errors missed and faulty manufacturing gets through the final checks.
As for the failure of the company to satisfactorily replace or repair the faulty product. I have at various times, both for myself or other family members demanded satisfaction and replacement outcomes from resistant employees and owners to back up their product by replacement or repair. I have been assertive and stood my legal ground and politely and calmly insisted on my rights as a consumer with successful outcomes.
Cheers,
Hobs
