Title: FNQ and NQ service and repairs
Post by: spanner on November 17, 2014, 10:42:33 PM
I live in Townsville and would love some recommendations for getting the old STeed serviced and looked after should she get sick.

i have had very average service from Rising Sun Honda for my previous bikes. Granted they were only a 250 and a 400 but still did not feel like the bikes were actually cared for because they were old and small .

I would have thought that that would have been the perfect time for building a potential relationship.

But any way I digress

Are their any recomendations for reliable service and repairs in the NQ and FNQ regions?

I am willing to drive the 4 hours south to Macka or the 5 hours North to Cairns in needed.

cheers,

spanner

I bought my ST as a demo bike from Cairns Honda in 2009, and sadly was unimpressed with the predelivery check.  The bike was my first heavy bike, and in my ignorance I put the poor handling down to the weight of the bike.  Turned out that both tyre pressures were very low.  They may be better now.

Who do you use for service?

MotoAdelaide in Adelaide, which is where I live. They are great people to deal with.   I bought my ST in Cairns when I was half way around the Oz on my Yammie XJR1300 and broke it very badly.

I get my bike's 130,000 km oil and filter change done by Jeff's Bikes and Bits, Gordon St, Mackay, and I'll get my 140K service done there as well.  Only had that one service and a rear tire changed, but they got me an Angel GT for that no hassle.  They're just a small shop (Hyosung agents), but I prefer to deal with small businesses.

Jeff's Bikes and Bits
Gordon St (just moved about 200 metres from their last site on the corner of Lawson/Gordon)
Mackay
Ph:  4952 3331

I'm a little unsure of the local Honda dealership - ref my thread about the two motorcycle shops.

If you're down, give me a PM for my phone no and I'll ride you out of town.

Steve

hey STeve, as another local & a newbie ST owner, it's always useful to get a recommendation for servicing... we have always received good service & good deals from Jeffs Bikes as well... John

Hi John, I guess that was the three of you (you, Kate and miss scarlet) that my wife and I sat next to at the lights on the corner of Nebo Road and the Mackay Botanic Gardens a month or so ago.

Yup... that'd be us. We should go for a ride somewhere, some time - have you tried The Old Station Teahouse out on the road to Cape Hillsborough? Definitely worth a visit for morning tea. I'm a shift worker, but we're up for a ride whenever the shifts allow. PM me & we can exchange phone numbers... John

I'm on holiday in Bowen right now, it was too wet to ride up on Saturday so I'm on 4 wheels.  Off to Townsville tomorrow to see rellies and home to Mackay Sunday.  So I'll have to make it some weekend later.

Really recommend the Old Station Café at Cape Hillsborough, but last year when we were coming home from Airlie beach they had closed for the whole month of January.  And when we went down that road to Cape Hillsborough last week they had their the gate shut so they may be closed for the month again.

From the Bruce Highway you could cut across north of the Leap and go across to Marion and up through Mirani to Pinnacle for a Pinnacle Pub Pie.  Or cut across just above Mt Ossa and go through to Mirani and on to Pinnacle.
