Gday folks.
Ok so I've owned the bike for a week. Yes i know i'm throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
Although I did plan on fixing her minor little issues considering I paid so little for her, the lazy man inside of me is just thinking sh*t can I really be bothered?
That and the old man is really giving me curry for buying it and storing it in his garage while I fart*rse around.
Went on a decent ride yesterday and it rode beautifully.
I have listed it elsewhere for 5800 (more than I paid which I know is a little cheeky but I think it's more than fair and not my fault I bought it undervalue) but if anyone on here wants it, 4700 is the price firm, which is what she owes me.
Very low km and the paint is in excellent condition for the age. Very minor chips here and there.
Just had it's 35000km service completed. Did a PPSR search and nothing to report on there.
Now for the not so awesome...
Right fork tube is pitted and needs to be re-chromed or replaced ($170 quoted)
Intermittent FI sensor code 26. Still averaging 5.4L/100 economy but the random light is annoying. Will most likely need a new sub harness ($90 quoted) or just the wire replaced if you really wanna get your hands dirty.
Non ABS model but for some reason even the previous owner couldn't explain why there there is an ABS light that is perma lit on the dash.
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. If i can't sell it I'm going to get myself together and just spend the money on it because it IS a beautiful machine.
An ST1300 for under 5 Grand? My early christmas present to you haha!
Cheers,
Cam.

Gday Cam what STate are you in? and can you take close up pics showing the forks that are pitted. :think1 it certainly sounds like a good buy.. thanx
-
No worries johnny I can do.
Personally i don't see any pitting myself but the right fork seal has started leaking after 1000km so the bloke that did it swears that it is the fork and not his seals.
I have no option other than to believe him since i am no mechanic.
Ill take a photo and post asap.
I'm on the border of QLD and NSW (Banora Point)

I cant see ny rust there, maybe it just needs a wipe with some red scotchbrite and a wipe ith some oil to keep it clean. There may be a bit of dust under the seals causing the leak. Is it a bad leak or a slight weep. There is a simple technique that cleans under the seal, one of the guys who has done it may be able to explain
The ABS bit sounds like some one replaced the dash / instruments at some stage, so the Ks on the clock may be a bit suspect. Just pull the bulb, and that problem goes away.
The FI light is a problem that keeps cropping up, some one in your area may be able to help have a look at it.

You're right in saying it's a gift at the price.
If you really like it, spend the money and enjoy it- you won't get another bike of its capability at the price.
As suggested elsewhere, pull the ABS globe or the wire to it. I'm guessing you got it cheaply because the little things bugged someone else. In your situation I'd stick with it and debug it- why give someone else a gift.
There are a few things you can do about a leaking fork seal, but the replacement cost sounds very reasonable.
Looking at the corrosion on the metal near the fork, it's been neglected. Give her some TLC. ++

Well I'm glad you agree the price is good and im flattered you would rather see me keep it than give it away :D
There really isn't much corrosion at all - that little screw on the radiator in the photo really makes it look rough unfairly. As for the ABS light i simply made mention of it rather than attempt to cover it up out of respect to any potential buyer. I know it's cheap but a very honest bloke and these are the only issues known to me bar none and once sold I will be able to sleep at night.
The problem for me is that I'm planning to go back to uni next year so although I don't mind slowly working on non urgent things like the fi light, the more pressing issue of the fork I just really don't have the energy (or money) for right now. Ive been a bit weighed down with random mechanical expenses all at once lately with my car and other bike and I guess I'm just not ready for round three. If it doesnt sell ill absolutely fix it, but it will be sitting around under covers until after christmas at least and just having it sitting around is really going to bug me. I bought it a sa spare of the moment thing knowing I wouldnt lose money on it so If someone else out there wants to put the work in im happy to let them :)
