Title: Euro Beam 4 Inch HID Driving Lights
Post by: alans1100 on November 19, 2014, 01:17:13 PM
I bought these this morning. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-55W-4-INCH-HID-XENON-DRIVING-LIGHTS-EURO-SPREAD-OFFROAD-4X4-4WD-UTE-12V-SPOT-/330781959649? (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-55W-4-INCH-HID-XENON-DRIVING-LIGHTS-EURO-SPREAD-OFFROAD-4X4-4WD-UTE-12V-SPOT-/330781959649?) The same as others have fitted before.

After seeing Saaz's LED driving lights on the Silverton trip I thought about getting some of those or similar but at the moment they're a bit on the expensive side. I don't do a lot of night riding anymore so the HID as compromise will be good enough should I need them.

I've had 4 inch Halogen driving lights before and took them off when I did the timing belt but re-routed the wiring for future over mirror driving lights. Now all I need is the police light brackets.

I run similar HID's at the moment but have a sneaky plan to add LED's as well   :whistle

The hardest part was figuring out where to post as there's quite a few HID and LED posts (yours included).

On the other hand I could have made another topic as the lights are more about getting the bike ready for WA in 2016.

I have compared the hids on the st1100 to the Eric's LEDs in the garage. The hids are still great lights so you can't go wrong.

Arrived in todays mail.

I did have the option of several coloured light covers and I chose blue however within 15 minutes of ordering I received a phone call from them advising that blue wasn't available and they asked what colour. I said clear in that case but I got both clear and yellow (give away I think).

When I opened the box all was as expected but with the clear covers fitted as standard I think with the yellow wrapped in plastic and sitting on top. I took the clear off and tried the yellow but they wouldn't fit as the clear cover uses three tabs and the yellow uses 4 and won't locate where they should.

The included wiring means no soldering when fitting so I've decided to replace the wiring from my old set which is in place for these but before I can do that I need to order the mounting hardware which will set me back $US176 from Partzilla so that's early on next years list.

They look good Alan. I have a set on my 1100 and they are awesome. Just remember to black out the tabs and edges of the covers or you will get a very distracting light show on your side. Plastic transmits the light back via the tabs.

Enjoy the daylight.. :thumbsup

I'm not to sure which lights I have, they are supposed to be Euro Beam but the box says flood beam. So I contacted the seller and I was informed that they are Euro Beam but they only use Flood or Spot beam boxes to save on packaging costs.

If not happy he offered to exchange one for a spot beam if I wanted to. Before I made up my mind I sent another e-mail asking about any added costs for the swap over. Returned e-mail from him saying that a new light would be sent at no cost to me. That was ok but nothing about returning one of the Euro beams.

Next thing I have is an e-mail from Australia Post with tracking details for another new light. When it gets here I'll need to ask where to return the one for the swap or is the third light a gift for a possible order mix up?

He's obviously keen to please.
You'll have to set up a test rig to determine what type suits you best.

Euro and flood beam are used interchangeably, but to me a Euro beam has a mix of spot and flood all in one. A pure flood is a bit different, more like what you would use on a tractor to light up what you are doing with machinery.  STroppy has a euro and spot combination HID on the ST1100 so might be able to help with pictures etc.

I sent this image to the seller as well and like John I think the Euro Beam is supposed to be like the RH image in the picture so a spot and a Euro or Flood will be ok.

With 55/6OW globes the low beam is quite good and high beam is just okay at less than the state limit but it could be better and a proper Euro beam would have been more than enough for me but a Euro and Spot combination will be much better.

Have a quiet chat with Wombat about those mirror mounts. He made some really great ones here. I have above and below mirror lights courtesy of his magic.
I will try to add a pic tomorrow as Tapatalk is being silly right now.

The HID spot light (including wiring) arrived today. Another email to seller to find out where to return one of the Euro beams and I've told the spot light was a gift so either one Euro beam or a spot light as a spare.
