F111 Disposal from Thiess Pty Ltd on Vimeo (http://player.vimeo.com/video/86663113)

I wonder why they wernt allowed to melt down and recycle them instead of just putting them in landfill?
-
They coulnt be scrapped as there was asbestos lagging on some of the systems, and not practical to remove it. As well, I think some of the alloys contained heavy metals (Cadmium etc). So find a secret hole, line it and bury the beasts.
It was a shame to have to do it though

A somewhat undignified end for some great aircraft.
-
you mean they didn't all crash.......lol
Other than I wasn't wondering what happened to them

Shame to see such an ending for a great aircraft, although they were never used by Australia in combat ... was known as the 'pig' to many, because of the long snout, and ability to hug the ground.
