Radar detectors.
I know they are illegal in Australia as the boys in blue dont like em much. :law
I have been reading some american web sites that have been touting them as almost mandatory .... apart from a few states such as Virginia ... apparently.
What i want to know is how do these work and how do the boys ... and girls in blue know you have em.
I cant understand how they would save your bacon.
I mean lets say you are doing a 130 kph down the Bruce Highway and round the corner you go and ...... whamo! you get gunned by the local constabulary. :cop :o :spank
i would have thought that the detector would warn you that you just got detected .... meaning its too late to slow down.
Obviously you can see that I am very brainy. I have not been able to put the right search criteria for a reasonable explanation.
your knowledge to asuage my curiosity is most welcome.

Illegal. Will be confiscated and you'll be fined.
They can be detected by the Police.
They are ineffectual against Laser, which is what most use now.
-
so my thoughts are correct-ish...... they detect the 'beam' once you have already been detected.
Kinda useless and just a "im-so-cool-i-have-a-detector' staus symbol.
i have always been of the opinion that is you speed and you get caught you should just cop it sweet.....mind you I am no saint.

I`m not sure that any body can claim that mantle.... :eek......................... :wht11

Hmmm wonder if my cylon would be detected.
-
I have still yet to hear a logical and non-specious rationale for their illegality.

I have one of these, bit sensitive. low power, used a few times successfully. needs alarm amplifier, working on that

at $15 i can simply chuck it as against the others at $500 plus.

What you are hoping for is to detect the use of the radar/laser being used on drivers ahead of you, to give a warning in time to check your speed. The Police can use a detector that sniffs out the IF (Intermediate Frequency) that the magitronics use to detect the micro wave signals from the speed gun.
If you have used a detector, and noticed that it ahs gone off for no reason in the middle of no where and another car has just gone past, then you have just detected his detector (and he probably got yours as well).
Detecors arent illegal in Oz as such, just most of it. They are not illegal in WA, and can be freely bought.

the cheap ones have a wide bandwidth, even fone towers set them off at times, or is that coincidental?. i do not know what the power of the inbuilt oscillator. the whole thing uses 6w.
it picked up one of those mobile vans used in NSW by contractors, It went off back around the corner out of sight from the van.

:|||| :|||| That advert is just about the worst Chinglish i've ever read. Lots of technical terms all mixed up..what has GPS to do with it.... :H

The weird law in Queensland is that they are not illegal to sell or buy - just to use them.
And as mentioned they are nearly useless now with the changes in technology.
