Hi folks,
My name is Steve Beldi and I live in Adelaide. Just managed to convince the wife that, at 59, you reflexes and riding ability don't suddenly disappear and that I am actually capable of riding a bike in Adelaide traffic without getting killed (as I have done for the past thirty odd years lol)
My last bike was a BMW K1100LT which was a nice bike, exactly my style, but getting any servicing done in Adelaide is a nightmare with only a couple of decent BMW techs, mostly on the south side of the city (I live on the north side, of course). I sold the K bike about a year ago and swore my next bike would be Japanese, either an ST11/1300 or a 1000GTR, both legends in their own lifetimes.
Well, after a monumental effort to convince the wife that a bike isn't a death sentence, a process that involved promises tantamount to selling my soul to the devil (not much difference really) she agreed that I could sell the Honda Accord and use the proceeds to find a bike. Yay!
After the usual search process, I came to the conclusion that there are no STs or GTRs in Adelaide so I'd have to look interstate. I found what looks like a nice '97 Pan Euro in Windsor. After discussing at length with the owner, we made a deal and I'm off to Windsor on Saturday morning to pick up (assuming it matches the description). I've wanted an ST for many years and it looks like it will happen. More to follow ;-*

WOHOO! its black! another rare black beauty! nice choice & welcome aboard...
Cheers!

welcome Steve from the red centre. I've had my ST since august and love it and like you had to go interstate to find one so had plenty of get to know time on the ride home enjoy.

Thanks for the heads up Abe. Fortunately, despite the wife's efforts to make me sell all my gear when I sold the K1100, I resisted and still have some pretty good wet-weather gear. Having lived in Sydney during my Army days, I'm pretty well acquainted with the weather and show it due respect.

Hoping to get time to get out there Stinky an do more than commute. I'll keep an eye out for other ST riders around the city. We're lucky to have some amazing roads close to the city so going for a ride is something we can do pretty spontaneously :-)

Welcome.
Amazing wealth of knowledge on this forum.

Thanx to all for the warm welcome. I've had a chance to have a look around and I'm astounded by the information available. I got to know the K1100LT more intimately than I'd like because of the dearth of competent Beemer techs in SA and I'm over doing more than routine maintenance on bikes these days, even if I had the time so the big stuff will be being done properly by a workshop.
Pete, Windsor SA would be too easy and no fun. It's Windsor NSW. Flying out at 7AM in the morning and overnighting in Gundagai on the way back. Expect to get in sometime Sunday Evening. Most excited! :-)

:blk11Thannks for that TJ. I picked up the bike on Saturday afternoon. The photo on Gumtree didn't do it any justice at all. Absolutely beautiful! I climbed on and headed out for Gundagai where I was booked into a motel through some of the heaviest rain and thunderstorms I've ever encountered. Takes a bit to get through my wet weather gear but it managed and I was very pleased to get to Gundagai. Took off for Adelaide at 8AM and arrived at just after 9PM with three 45 minute rest stops in between. I've never ridden a more comfortable bike, nor one that's easier to ride. It has a nice set of Staintune mufflers that produce a gorgeous unmistakable V4 note. I am seriously in love with this bike!
Took it through Regency Park this morning and had the VIN and engine number checked. All good to register in SA now.
Looking forward to many a great ride on this machine.
Hope you're well mate. What's your next great adventure on the 1300? :blk11

Glad to hear you are home safe and had a great ride getting to know your ST. Keep an eye on the SA Ride to Eat program here http://ozstoc.com/index.php?board=26.0 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?board=26.0) and I look forward to catching up. :thumb

Great to hear your back and enjoyed the ride, keep the National Rally in the back of your mind just in case you feel like a ride up to Toowoomba. There may even be some from down your way going.
Always have a couple of rides planned, just a matter of fitting them in when I can.

It sounds like you found the perfect bike for you Bolshie :thumbs
How about posting up some pics for us :thumb
-
Well that is a decent test ride to see if you like the ST1100 or not :hatwave
I'm glad you like your new STeed :like

Thanks all for your good wishes. Yep, I'm well and truly hooked. I've had a couple of VFR750s and a VF1000F in my time and have always loved the sound of a Honda V4. Sadly, the VFRs always felt a bit physically small for me, otherwise beautiful machines. I've now finally found a bike that ticks every box with to possible exception of an adjustable windscreen. My K1100LT had one and I loved being able to tailor airflow perfectly. Oh well, I could start saving for an ST1300, but I'm not giving this bike up for quite a while. It's a keeper. I'll try to compose a brief ride report with the few photos I managed to take. :-)
-
Welcome, What a great way to start the relationship with the ST. Glad you are happy with the bike. Congrats.
-
The old owners still have it listed for sale I was going to see it this weekend
-
Yeah, I saw that. Not only is it not there anymore, but it's sporting a nice shiny SA number plate :-)
