does rhis tow bar look like it is meant to fit my ST1100?
I am possibly not having a good day!
-
A little hard to tell with the image 90 degree out at first....... but look like tyre is to wide or frame to narrow.
I use the Classic towbar and the hangers are bolted on and I have 40mm or more clearance each side of the tyre. I still have to remove the bar and leave the supports hanging when I change the rear tyre
-
Just bend it in a bit until it fits.

Ooohkaaayyy
i just cant tell where in the world it is supposed to attach.
Anyone able to helpout a useless tool?
pics or diagrams would be ever so muchly appreciated.
I can send other pics if needed.

It looks like the needed bolts are wrapped at the mounting points which are the exhaust mounting......The OEM bolts come out as they're not long enough
The 4th picture shows the towbar mounted inboard of the muffler, was the only one I could find on here at the moment.......http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=4738.msg50795#msg50795 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=4738.msg50795#msg50795)
This where mine bolted for the hangers/supports http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=2562.msg26016#msg26016 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=2562.msg26016#msg26016) and I had to make a hole each side for them to slide in. Yours look rigid compared to mine so it might locate at a different location on the upper bike frame.
You might find that once it's installed the wheel clearance will be much better than now.

What ever you do Spanner just make a habit of checking the tow-bar frame to diff filler cap clearance...often often often.
Just ask Lionel.
The problem is they can be pulled left out of alignment with the centreline of the bike and crash into the diff plug. And it does not matter what brand bar. Ive seen it on a few more ST's and its eveident on other bikes too.

Thanks heaps for the heads up on that one !

Hi Spanner,
The towbar in the picture does not appear to be designed to fit an ST1100. I have done quite an extensive search of the web for various ST1100 towbars and can't find any that match your photo.
As Allan said too narrow, and bending the bars will only weaken the whole thing and effect the geometry. Apart for Allan's install I also found this one http://www.st-riders.net/index.php?topic=7615.0 (http://www.st-riders.net/index.php?topic=7615.0) which shows what the towbar should look like and where it attaches. If I was you I would calk it up to experience and source another - Sorry.
This may be a better option;http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Honda-Motorcycle-tow-bar-tow-hitch-trailer-tow-/190507300536?clk_rvr_id=750298864230 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Honda-Motorcycle-tow-bar-tow-hitch-trailer-tow-/190507300536?clk_rvr_id=750298864230)

Spanner, contact the previous owner using the e.mail address I sent you. The towbar WAS previously fitted to an 1100.
