Post by: Abe on January 05, 2015, 06:48:35 AM
This information is from Grumpy (John):-

Dinner Sat night to be confirmed, probably a campoven baked dinner around the campfire at the caravan park.
Breakfast Sun morning at campfire at caravan park. Cost to be confirmed for the meals. Profits will go to the RFDS.

There should be 5 cabins available and plenty of camping space. The nights are normally quite mild in June and certainly nowhere near as cold as Uralla.

I will be arranging a ride on the Saturday within a 100km or so radius for those who arrive on Friday.

Also for those who arrive on Friday, there will be a BBQ at my place for dinner or people can go to the bowling club for chinese food.

When we know who is coming from  where and when, we will ride out and meet them and bring them into town.

Will get on with organising rides and will let you know as things are firmed up. I will need numbers for dinner and breakfast but we can get that later.

John, you want to share a cabin?

Well we can't let anyone starve so dinner on Sat night and breakfast on Sun have been organised.

Sat night dinner will be a camp oven roast with the trimmings
Sun breakfast will be bacon, Sausages and eggs or cereal for those who don't like a cooked brekky. And of course toast and coffee/tea.

Cost for this will be $25.00 for both meals and the proceeds go to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

There are likely to be other travellers in the caravan park at the time and we will have tables for OzSToc, but feel free to mingle as you see fit.

Drinks will be BYO to your taste.

If anyone has special dietary requirements please let me know and we will organise as required.

If you have any queries or would like more information, put it up here, PM me, or phone me on the mobile no in my signature.

I rang late last week to book accommodation to be told just turn up and we'll find something for you. Apparently the husband was somewhere out in the park and had the book with him and his wife wasn't sure of what was available.
Seems a bit odd.
I might look towards hotel accommodation just to be on the safe side.
Sleeping on a mattress on the floor won't do my back too much good if I'm to travel 5+ hours on the Sunday.

Howdy all, great to see a healthy list coming to Gular.

Just thought I would mention a few things to hopefully make it easier for all you guests.

We are only a small town and the facilities are a bit different to larger centres, so hope this helps.

Fuel - there is no servo, but we have a fuel centre which accepts cards only. BP fuel usually

ATM - there is no ATM in town, but you can get cash with purchase at the supermarket, or at the bowling club atm (opens at 12:00 noon on weekends)

Supermarket - we have a small supermarket which carries most things, including alcohol, open all day .

Hardware - not open on weekends.

2828 - the only eatery in town, also tourist info and souvenirs and crafty things

Chinese food - Fri and Sat nights at the bowling club - very popular and need to order early if u want takeaway on Fri night

Bowling Club - Fri night is meat tray raffles

Caravan Park - signposted all the way through town, check with me if you have trouble.

My Place - Coming into town from the south (Gilgandra) my place is the last house on the left in the 80kmh zone. The 50kmh sign is basically on my northern fence.
Feel free to drop in or call me when you get to town.

For those that are arriving Friday, we will have a bbq at my place , bring your drinks of choice.

The Sat ride will leave about 9:00am and will be about 205km with a few stops along the way. Lunch will be at one of the local watering holes. Traffic and corner control will not be an issue, but there will be a ailend charlie in case something goes awry.

Fingers crossed STorm will be back and healthy before then.

Looking forward to seeing you all up here.

Cheers
Grumpy  :grin :bl11

We'll definitely be in on this ride.
Can somebody tell me what the current overnight temps are out there as we're planning on camping.

Is anyone else going from central/midnorth coast region?

flash and myself are going to be riding from the central coast.

We are just waiting on confirmation of some accomodation as we are not brave enough to camp in the cold.  :-(((

Hi all, just a bit of an update.

Meals are planned for Sat night dinner (camp oven roast) and Sun breakfast (bacon, eggs, etc and/or cereal and toast). Cost for both meals will be $25.00, if only having Sat dinner cost will be $15.00. All proceeds will go to RFDS. The caravan park is very popular and there are likely to be quite a few travellers there as well as us. Tables will be set up for our dinner, but feel free to mingle.

There is a campfire at the caravan park which pretty much burns 24hrs a day at this time of year.

For those arriving Friday, there will be a BBQ at my place at about dinner time, byo drinks if you are interested.

If you could let me know who is arriving Friday it would be good (then I can have some food for you). For the rest would you please let me know your approx arrival time on Saturday, so I can plan the ride to get as many of us on it as possible. Nothing too strenuous, just a jaunt in the bush. To plan the lunch stop, I need to get the timings as soon as possible.

Remember, if you have any queries or want info, either post here, PM me or call me on 0418 164 819.

Look fwd to seeing you guys out here.

Cheers
Grumpy  :grin :bl11

We will be there Saturday afternoon (unable to get Friday off, unfortunately) but it's only a coupla 400 odd kays up the road for us. So if we leave early can be there mid afternoon ready to join the fun and frivolity  ;-*

Growly gave me the heads up to this event when it was posted up and I have already booked a cabin with the van park.

Looking forward to my first "official" Ozstoc metting.

Well its getting closer . Things are cruising along plans wise. Even better is that I received the new water pump today and it looks like I'll have a ride for Sat  :clap :runyay

For info

Those arriving Fri, my place is on the edge of town (southside), it says "Stewart Glen" on the sign on the fence. Turn up when you ready.

The ride on Sat will leave about 10am and we will be heading westish, with lunch planned at a small watering hole on the way. We should be back from the ride abt  3ish, leaving plenty of time for socialising before dinner at about 6:30pm .

Again any queries call me or PM me

Cheers

Advised to pack something warm to wear around the camp fire Satdee night and don't forget to bring your drinkies.
I think they are as excited about this as we are  :thumbsup

Brightening up to what looks like a beautiful day for riding here at the Gong. All packed and ready to go. But wait...I knew I was forgetting something. There's one more S of the 3 S's that I haven't done. Better take care of that or it'll be a long ride.  ;-*

Got home at 4.30 this afternoon after a fantastic weekend. Thanks to Grumpy and the caravan park crew for making it go off, and thanks to all who came and made the event a success. Yes, it was a good brownie, ask Tipsy!

The ride back was a bit cold for the most part. Medium to heavyish fog from Gilgandra to Wellington, so no sun. Down to 4c and the ice warning icon lit up - did not really need to be told that! When sun came out still cool, back into Canberra 11c or so.

A few photos leading up to Saturday night, others will post some of the event itself.

The Phantom (Karl) & I got home this afternoon at 3:30pm.

Stopped in Dunedoo for more layers and a hot chocky when A2Z (Allan) pulled up. He rode with us to Mudgee and we went our separate ways.
Like saaz had heaps of fog all the way to Mudgee.

Thank you  ++ to Grumpy for organising, Dave & Bernadette for sharing their own little piece of paradise and to ALL of you for making Karl and I feel so welcome (even though we don't ride ST's). It was a fabulous way to spend the weekend, catching up with friends and meeting new ones.

A very humbled Tipsy.

A huge thanks to all who came to Gular for the ride. Hope everyone enjoyed their stay, I know we had a great time and it was great to catch up with old friends and to meet some great new people.

Top marks to a top group.  :beer :beer

Julie had a great time and is now a forum member  (Dliteful).

Photos here http://s872.photobucket.com/user/GularGrumpy/slideshow/Gulargambone%20RTE%20June%202015 (http://s872.photobucket.com/user/GularGrumpy/slideshow/Gulargambone%20RTE%20June%202015)

I think Diesel should update his forum name to Double D (stands for Damp Diesel).  :rofl :rofl :rofl

Remember, if you close to out here again, call in at least for a cuppa or a bed if you need it.

PS, I would do a ride report, but one line would be a waste. (At least I had a STeed to ride)

On behalf of flash and myself would just like to say a big thank you to all involved in organising and putting on this event we had a brilliant time.

We arrived home around 7pm cold and a bit bruised.
Had a great ride home along with cravenhaven.
Taking a slight detour through mudgee due to an updating sat nav. Went to take our so called planned route to find the road closed  :'(
Found our way to another road which took us through some fantastic countryside to be stopped in our tracks by the sight of a dirt road (that wasn't on Google maps  :well )
Being the true men they are we pursued through the dirt road finding some spectacular pot holes on the way. A bit bruised we came out the other side and took the road through Bylong ending up at Denman.
We continued on, Cravenhaven said goodbye and after some dinner we battled through the cold down the freeway and arrived home.

Well done to flash it was a long ride home and your reward was a nice cup of tea made by me haha  :thumbsup

Hope everyone got home safely and are now snuggled up nice and warm.

See you all at the next ride.

Annie  :KissBlow

Just for info and your comfort, forecast for the weekend is

Fri   7 - 19    Sunny
Sat  5 - 18    Sunny
Sun  4 - 17   Sunny

This assumes that the mets got it right  :rofl :rofl

They lied. All those first numbers should have started with '0.'  :eek.

Had a great time on the weekend, thanks Grumpy and Julie especially but all the attendees in general. I must remember to investigate warmer sleeping bags for the next western adventure.

Had a great ride back through the Bylong valley with Ben and Annie, after spending an hour or more struggling to find the entrance  :think1. Finally got home just after 7 and warmed up in front of a roaring fire.

What another sensational OzSTOC weekend away.....I must say that small country towns and their hospitality really shine for me as a RTE Destination.

A Massive thanks to Grumpy and Julie for their organisation of this event  :runyay  :-++ all the feedback that Saaz and I received was nothing but positive.  ;-*

My Pockey free weekend  :-[ commenced in -2 degrees at home and collected a couple of mates (Ian & Brad) in Armidale and Captain Thunderbolt in Uralla.....I must say it took some getting use to travelling with a sports bike with a small tank  :whistle

Arrived mid arvo and set up camp in camp city with the other reprobates with leave passes....

Growly and his new camper became a gathering point......nice one mate  :like

I had a couple of new camp items on this trip to try that proved to be effective....replaced my Thermarest  3.8 cm camp mat with a Exped down filled mat at 7cm with a far more winter friendly "R" value and a Jetboil flash hiking stove....both get a double  :thumbsup

My MSS (Military Sleep System) was brilliant as usual......but this was the first time I had used the sub zero Celsius part of the bag and was too hot at times  :eek could have nearly used the Intermmediate part of the system.

Although sleep was difficult to find for some...... :Stirpot **Dont setup camp in same postcode as Tim**  :Stirpot

The food prepared by the park owners and their helpers were sensational, anything that comes out of a campoven is difficult to beat  :like

A light frost and an even bigger dew had most of the campers break camp late.....

Great to see all the old hands and the people new to our group  :thumbsup

I headed south with Sicman to have a look over a new purchase in the form of a camper trailer....then headed home the following day......

I Left 2 skid marks on the road near Marsden.......one came from a PR4, the other was a different colour.....when a Emu with his head down just looked like a brown shrub just off the roads edge lifted his head and went for a run.....he weaved, I ducked and we both survived to reek havoc another day.

Got home safe'n'sound early last night with just over 1600k's for the weekend.

Weel I got home a 6pm tonight (Tues) after having a wonderful few days and sleeping in the mostest comfortable warmest bed I have had in a very long time.  they's lucky I couldna fit it ona ma Rhonda.
I must give a Great thanks and applause to Dliteful aka Julie, Grumpy's better half for looking after me over the 4 nights I was there
with wonderful food (hehehe More Brownies and Freshly baked apple thingy's in flaky pastry with thick whipped cream Both of them are a treat to be with.
It was bloody good catchin up with the family again.and had a nice ride where it was so good to stay somewhere around the speed limit. lol except for the pain I am starting to feel so much more that I am afraid I have to inform everyone who was NOT there on Sat night that, That was unfortunately my last ride.
The discomfort is such that I am loosing the joy of riding, from my feet to my neck are aching within the first ten minutes or so of starting.
So The most Charismatic bike in the family of Ostoc is up for sale.
asking price for a 2000PY is $3000 .... 100 mm extension the Handle bars + a 30-35 mm risor. (no more leaning forward) 191000 on the clock and belt done at 60000.. I have a few things to finish on it and rego runs out next month. some body should be quick and they could ride her home.
Dont worry I will still be on the forum and will be doing the S E Qld xmas BBQ again this year.
Cheers

Thanks for the great weekend all.
I really don't get to enough rte events.
Sad to hear Tipsy will be selling the bike, but hope to see you at events, even in a car or walking, end of an era Tipsy, but good doors opening for you with the 3D printer and router, can't wait to see what you can do with that.
Great first run with the new tour-lite roadster camper, towed well and slept like a log but a work in progress. Really great to see what Diesel has done with the trailer, lots of great ideas happening there and worth watching what happens.
Any talk about the two moons rising at the driving light shoutout is all hearsay and there is no truth in any of it .... Unless it says I have a better bum then Diesel, then it's all true.
The best brownies I have ever tasted, should be a law about them being at every rte.
Great to see Kim and Carl show up. You guys need to get a van so it can be kc and the sunshine van  :clap the older folks will understand.
Cheers all

Tipsy, I'm so sorry to read that you feel the time has come to hang up your boots, for you and your partner Rhonda have become an iconic part of OzSTOC.   I'll see you at more RTE's not doubt, but you'll just be on four wheels and not two.  Life marches on with all it's twists and turns, so Chris and I wish you well, and now your OzSTOC family need to help you find a good home for Rhonda, somewhere she'll be appreciated for who and what she is.  Wherever she finishes up, she'll always be Tipsy's bike and a significant part of OzSTOC history.  Best Wishes my friend.

I'd like to say a big thank you to Tony (Sicman) who conducted the auction for the world record breaking brownie.

The calibre, charisma and energy he put into being the auctioneer was paramount in helping get such a great price for the brownie in support of the RFDS.

Tony could sell a freezer to an Eskimo!      :crackup

Well done mate.     :clap :clap :clap

A big thanks also goes to the chef of said brownie - Julie (Dliteful) and of course - all the OzSTOC Punters who helped such a worthy cause.

Great stuff indeed.     :thumb
