Hi, I'm new here, only found this forum today. :thumb
I'm in my mid fifties, have been off bikes for about three decades (and back then didn't do a lot of riding anyway) and wanted to get back in and was very tempted to buy an ST1100 or ST1300 as I've always loved them, but thought I'd be sensible as I'm not that competent as a rider.
So I thought I'd start off by buying a new CB400ABS, having fun with that and then in a year or two buy an ST as well, so that's what I'm looking at doing.
In the meantime, I'm looking forward to having a good look around the forum and getting to know more about the bikes.
While I'd love a near new one, I actually quite like the idea of a very early ST1100 as I enjoy buying older things (cars usually) and improving them.
Looking forward to getting to know you all and taking advantage of your knowledge and experience.
I can't believe Honda stopped making these. :o

Hey welcome Doggy1
i did exactly as you are doing now .
i already had a cb400 superfour (1991model) i loved it and hopefully will reserect it. I did about 7 return trips from Townsville to sunny coast 1300 km each way on the 400.
was a bit hard with the wind banging you constantly but was great . I LOVED the 400 for around town. Fast, nimble and large enough to be seen and not totally laughed at by other bikers.
I joined this group about 12 months prior to buying a st1100A. . 99' model with abs, dbs and tcs. Was an ex-members old steed. Unfortunately he passed away and that was why his bike was up for sale.
When it is time to buy the STeed of your choice make sure you get someone from this forum to check it out with you .
you will be amazed and the help available and offerd.
You will notice a WORLD of difference ffom the 400 to the ST. Fully fared, very heavy, can be hot sometimes in stagnant traffic and a few other idiocycracies (sp?)
BUT
i have fallen in love with the beastie and i am sure you will too.
cheerrs,
Spannenr

Hey, Spanner, thanks for that. So I'm not the only one who thinks like this. :thumb

Weeeeeellllll ..... sort of . ;-*
mine was finace constraints but also as i gained experience i realise what sort of riding it was i wanted to do and long distance was definitely on the cards ..... in 2 1/2 months of owner ship i have done:
Port maquarie to sunny coast
sunny to townsville
townsville to sunny
sunny to townsville
townsville to cairns return
and a few more shorter local rides of a couple hundred K's.
i did think I had made a mistake in the first week as it really was such a big step up in both power and also manoeuvrability. .. or lack thereof at slow speeds but within a two week courtship the bond between us is stronger than the bond with the wife ...... whoops :spank :o

Welcome aboard Doggie 1 .. keep an eye out for RTEs both planned and member announced ... If you feel like going for a run post up if you want some company.
Have just added Cruise control to my 2000 ST1100P and did 20,000km in first 13 months of ownership (did 20,000km in 6 years of owning my Boulevard).
There are quite often 11s and 13s for sale around here. I think STray may still have his 11 up for sale which has been fully set up for touring.
Either way, enjoy your time here and hope to see you on the roads.
